Vincent A. Montana

Mr. Vincent A. Montana, age 61, of Utica, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009, in the privacy of his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on October 8, 1947, Vincent is the son of Irene M. (Raiano) and the late Carmen T. Montana. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of T. R. Proctor High School. On June 7, 1969 he married the former Flora A. Nitti with whom he shared 40 years in a loving and devoted union. Vincent worked as a supervisor in the maintenance department at M.V.C.C., a position he held until his illness. Vincent loved his family, and he was happiest when he was in their company. He was also a caring and loving son, known for his peacemaking abilities. He had a way of endearing himself to others and he especially enjoyed visiting his grandkids and taking them on their special walks. He followed football and baseball, and was a fan of the NY Giants and the NY Yankees. He also held a passion for his membership in the Magnificent Yankees Drum Corps. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Vincent is survived by his wife, Flora; his daughters and sons-in-law, Claudine M. and Bill Niebuhr of New Hartford, and Christine M. and David Fero of Whitesboro; his son, Vincent J. Montana of Utica; his grandchildren, Olivia Niebuhr, Michael Niebuhr, and Chad Fero; and his mother, Irene Montana, a resident at the Presbyterian Home. Survivors also include his sister, Antoinette M. LaValla of Deerfield; his brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas V. and Terri Montana of Las Vegas, NV; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Rose and Thomas Tallarino of Rome, Dolores and Mark Melita of FL, Richard and Clara Nitti of IN, Joseph, Jr. and Rita Nitti, Alfonso and Trudy Nitti, Dominick “Dick” and Maria Nitti, and Ralph and Patti Nitti, all of Utica; his many special friends. He was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Joseph & Palmina Nitti; and his best friend, Joe LoGalbo. The family expresses sincere appreciation to Dr. Toby Taylor and his staff for their kindness and generosity; Dr. Atul Butala and his staff of the Regional Cancer Center at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, and Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Vincent’s funeral service will commence on Thursday at 12:00 from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
