Valentine "Val" (Carcone) Conti

Mrs. Valentine “Val” (Carcone) Conti, age 89, of Utica, passed away on Monday, September 07, 2009 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with the love and support of her husband. Born in Utica on November 7, 1920, Valentine was the daughter of the late Mariano and Mary (D’Amanda) Carcone. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T. R. Proctor High School Class of 1940. It was at St. Anthony of Padua Church in April of 1947 that she married David Conti with whom she shared 62 years in a happy and loving union. For several years, Val worked as a saleswoman at Neisner’s Department Store and later worked as a telephone operator for the New York Telephone Company. She completed her working years employed by the Utica City School District as a clerk typist for the Assistant Superintendent, retiring after many years of service. Val was a loving and kind woman who doted on her family, especially her son and his family and her many nieces and nephews. Prior to her illness, she enjoyed entertaining in her home, especially during the holidays when family and friends gathered to celebrate the season. She was meticulous in tending to her home and enjoyed the comfort and solace that it offered. She was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Val is survived by her husband, David; her son, David J. Conti and his wife, Jean Lyons of Montclair, NJ; and her grandchildren, Julia Marie Conti and Jeffrey David Conti. Survivors also include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Benedict and Lucretia Carcone of Utica, and Anthony P. and Ann Carcone of Rochester; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, and her lifelong dear friends and cousins, Phil and Gloria Sciortino. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Rose M. and William V. Monopoli, Sr.; and her brother and sister-in-law, Mario John and Carmella Carcone. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Val’s honor to a charity of your choice; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Val’s funeral service will commence on Thursday afternoon at 12:00 from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
