Thomas N. Bonanza

Mr. Thomas N. “Tommy B.” Bonanza, age 79, of New Hartford, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Utica on September 29, 1927, Thomas was the son of the late Nicholas and Catherine (Brindisi) Bonanza. He was raised and educated locally, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. On October 4, 1952 he married the former Barbara “Bobbie” Garcia, with whom he shared 54 years of love and devotion. Always in each other’s company, they were the best of friends. Thomas’ vocation in life was an expression of his cordial personality. He was a well-known waiter and maitre’de, under the employ of various local restaurants, including Grimaldi’s Restaurant, and Alfredo’s Restaurant. Courteous of manner and gracious of style, he was well-suited for his occupation. His many lifelong friends affirm his good nature. As a pastime, he enjoyed golfing at local courses. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Thomas is survived by his wife, Barbara “Bobbie”; and his brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Carrie Bonanza. Also surviving are many special nieces and nephews, including Peter Bonanza, Nick Bonanza, Michelle and Rob Flo, Kristine and Keith Horan, John and Antoinette Melito, Christopher Melito, Lorie and John Ungaro, John Garcia and his fiancée, Shauna, and Jimmy and Diana Garcia. Thomas shared a special relationship with his nephews John and Christopher Melito, whom he adored as sons. His extended family includes his great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Judy and John D. Melito of Utica, and “Jimmy” and Linda Garcia of New Hartford. Thomas was blessed with many special friends, especially acknowledging Mike Natale and Rosalie. A special thank you is offered to Dr. Yoss, Dr. Kachare and Dr. Talerico for all of their care and attention. The entire family extends its heartfelt appreciation to Amanda and Sue Taurisani for their loving care and friendship, and Fred and Jeanne Castronovo for their concern and compassion. In keeping with Thomas’ wishes, there will be no public visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mr. Bonanza’s Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish at Mt. Carmel Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. Thomas will be brought to rest at Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
