Susan A. (Bohanna) Abdoo

Mrs. Susan A. (Bohanna) Abdoo, age 82, of New Hartford, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2007, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born in Utica on April 21, 1924, Susan was the daughter of the late Michael and Helena (Joseph) Bohanna. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On October 1, 1949 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church she married John G. Abdoo who passed away on November 14, 1972. The two were blessed with a delightful and devoted marriage. Susan worked in her vocation as a bookkeeper in the business office of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for over 30 years until her retirement in 1986. Independent and hard working, her family was her utmost priority. A generous woman, she enjoyed cooking for all her family and caring for those in need --- she reached out to everyone. She was a classy and gracious woman. For entertainment she enjoyed games of chance, shopping and bus trips with her friends. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Guild and was a parishioner of St. Louis Gonzaga Church. Susan is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Hugo Bach of Niskayuna, NY, JoAnn and Steven Abel of Deerfield, and Mary Helena and John Cornmire of W. Winfield; and her son, John Abdoo of York, NY. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jason and Sara Bach, Adam and Laura Bach, Lauren Abel, Amanda Abdoo, Thomas Abel, Elyssa, John, Jr., and Erica Cornmire; her great-grandchildren, Jurgen, Jackson, Tristen, and Cooper Bach, and Autumn Siegenthaler; her godchildren, Mary Ethel Kassouf, Sheila Rivet, and Louie Joseph, Jr. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, especially acknowledging Samira Massoud; her in-laws, Mary Bohanna of CA, Lucy Abdoo of Utica, Helen Abdoo of Utica, and Ida Bohanna of MO; and her many special friends, including Marie Averson, Jeanette Newman, Lola Hiffa, Mary Asker, and Rosina Sestito. She was predeceased by her loving daughter, Karen Sue Abdoo; her brothers, Dewey Bohanna, and George A. “Chops” Bohanna, her in-laws, Mary Lewis, Catherine and Dominick A. Hiffa, Amelia and Isaac “Knobby” Massoud, Albert and Mary Abdoo, Joseph Abdoo, Louis and Helen Abdoo, Michael and Alice George, and Louis Abdoo; her cousin, Marion Abouhanna; and her dear and cherished friend, Alice Kassouf. The entire family thanks the nurses and staff of the Intensive Care Unit and the 3C nurses and staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their dedication. Thanks also to Dr. Leo Sulllivan, Dr. Emil Wassel, and Dr. Fred Talerico for their compassionate care. Father Bassam Saade for his prayers. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The Prayer of Incense will be offered on Friday evening at 6:30 at the funeral home. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Susan’s honor to St. Louis Gonzaga Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Susan’s funeral service will commence on Saturday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Father Bassam Saade, Pastor. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
