Stephen C. "Steve" Garramone

Mr. Stephen C. “Steve” Garramone, age 89, a 52 year resident of Frankfort, was called by the Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the St. Luke’s Home. His loving family was by his side at the time of his passing. Born in Utica on December 26, 1919, Steve was the son of the late Rocco and Rosantonia (Pisani) Garramone, originally of Laurenzana, Italy. On January 13, 1945, at St. Anthony’s Church, he married the former Lena “Lee” Prestigiacomo with whom he shared 64 years; Lee was always proud of Steve’s lifetime accomplishments and his determination and ambition in pursuing his goals. After 20 years of dedicated service, Steve retired from the Kelsey Hayes Co. where he held a position in the maintenance department. During his working career, he established Garramone’s Mobile Manor in Frankfort which he continued to operate until his passing. At one time, he was employed by the City of Utica as a heavy equipment operator. An inventive man who was well-read, Steve valued learning and applied his knowledge to common sense solutions to everyday problems. An avid cook and talented baker, his specialty was Italian pastries. Fond memories and stories of his friends, Joe Spano, Don Calucci, Sam Mott, and Sal Noti were shared with the entire family, and he loved being with his baking buddies. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Steve is survived by his wife, Lena; his children, Helene and Fred Jufiar of Frankfort, Eugenia “Jeanne” Partipelo of Oneida, Stephen, Jr. and Maria Garramone of Utica, and John J. Garramone, Sr. and Maria Calenzo of Frankfort; his grandchildren, Mrs. Michelle (Keefe) and Rick Rigsby of NM, Wayne D. Keefe, Jr., of CA, Angela Partipelo of Oneida, Vito and Angela Partipelo of GA, Gina Partipelo of Oneida, Stephen J. Garramone, Joseph and Diane Garramone, all of Utica, John J. Garramone, Jr. of Albany, Sara Garramone of Syracuse, and Jessica Calenzo of Frankfort; and his great-grandchildren, Daniel and Amanda Rigsby, Krista Partipelo, Vito A. Partipelo, Jason and Kaylen Douglass, Miles Partipelo, Alexandria Garramone, Jaden and Janae Mazza, and Matthew and Ryan Gauthier. Survivors also include his sisters, Filomena LePorte of Utica, and Carm Graziano of Whitesboro; his brother, Michael Garramone of Utica; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, with special mention of Louis Garramone, Jr.; and sisters-in-law, Marie (Prestigiacomo) Punzi of Rochester, Julie (Cecere) Garramone, and Kay (Leo) Prestigiacomo, both of Utica He also leaves his friends, Bill Matthews of AZ, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jones and their family of Frankfort, who affectionately knew Steve as “Grampa”. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Shelly Garramone; his sister, Madeline Napoli; and his brothers, Louis J. Garramone, Sr., Joseph Garramone, Lawrence Garramone, John Garramone, Frank Garramone, and Rocco Garramone. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Garth Garramone for the guidance he provided, allowing Steve an additional three years of life and providing strength to the entire family throughout his illness. Visitation will be held Monday (today) from 5:00-8:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Steve’s funeral service will commence on Tuesday afternoon at 12:00 noon from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
