Stephen A. "Steve" Punzi

Mr. Stephen A. “Steve” Punzi, age 79, of Utica, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2007, at the Presbyterian Home for Central New York. Born in Utica on July 19, 1928, Steve was the son of the late Cosma (Dongia) Zaccania Punzi. He was raised and educated locally. As a veteran, he served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1953-54. On September 25, 1954 he married his soul mate, the former Jacqueline F. “Jackie” Vitalone, with whom he shared 48 years as a supportive husband until her passing on March 30, 2003. In 1955 Steve began his extensive 35 year career as a draftsman at General Electric. A dedicated employee, he enjoyed his work and had good memories of his co-workers and the company. A gentle, easy going father, he was always ready to lend a hand and support his children. Blessed with a friendly nature, he was easy to talk to. He took pleasure in spending time with his family and friends, and felt that they were the highlights of his accomplishments in life. He was a long time and avid Yankee fan, and at one time he was a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge #2054. Steve is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen O. and Cheryl Punzi of Niskayuna, NY, and Mark J. Punzi and Annette Santoro of Utica; his daughter and son-in-law, Annalyn and Gary Mosakowski of Columbia, NJ; and his grandchildren, Julia Punzi, Krista Mosakowski, and Jenna Mosakowski. Also surviving are his sister, Louise Boyda; his nieces and nephews, Carl and Elaine Vitalone, Darlene and Mark Dunn, Joseph and Joanne Vitalone, Gary Vitalone, John and Leslie Punzi, Lorraine and Jim McEvoy, and Victor Bumbalo; many great-nieces and great-nephews, several cousins, and in-laws, Josephine Vitalone, and Marie Punzi, both of Utica. He was predeceased by his brother, John J. Punzi; his in-laws, Carl A. and Rosemary Vitalone; his step-sisters and brother-in-law, Mary and Guy Bumbalo, and Grace Maine; and his brother-in-law, Henry Boyda. The family extends thanks to the staff at the Aspen Unit of the Presbyterian Home for Central New York, and Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare for their concern and attentiveness. In keeping with Steve’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Steve’s Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church. The family will receive guests at the conclusion of the service. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorial donations in Mr. Punzi’s honor to the American Cancer Society or to Donate Life America; envelopes will be available at the service. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
