Shamika Dieshall Spratt-Lawson

UTICA – Shamika Dieshall Spratt-Lawson, age 46, entered eternal rest and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 16, 2025. She passed peacefully, surrounded in spirit by the love of her devoted family and friends. Born on December 21, 1978, in Utica, NY, Shamika was the beloved daughter of Carlene Spratt and Brodice Lawson, Sr. She was a proud graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. Shamika was known for her kind, gentle heart and unwavering love for her family—especially her daughters, whom she cherished deeply. She brought comfort and warmth to those around her, and her natural gift for conversation, combined with her sense of humor, made her a joy to be around. Her love was unconditional, and she was always ready to feed, nurture, and support anyone in need. A lover of music, Shamika found joy in both listening and singing. She had an eye for fashion and was known as a true fashionista, never missing a chance to express her style. As a talented braiding specialist, she created unique and beautiful hairstyles that showcased her creativity. She kept up with current events, often enjoying the nightly news with a comforting cup of coffee. Whether taking a peaceful walk or celebrating with loved ones, Shamika embraced life fully and joyfully. She lived life on her own terms, with authenticity and strength—always marching to the beat of her own drum. A devoted member of Christ Temple, Shamika lived a life rooted in faith and spiritual purpose. One of her favorite affirmations was, “God’s got a blessing.” Shamika is survived by her loving mother, Carlene Spratt; her cherished daughters, Shakeyva Lawson, Lakeya King, and Ashanti King; and her adored grandchildren, Marlee Shaw, Zahmari Shaw, and Joseph Johnson Jr. She also leaves behind her special uncle and aunt, Rondell and Shena Patterson; her sisters, Doloris Warren, Lakiesha Lawson, and Chaunta Warren; her brothers, Brodice Lawson and Demetrius Warren; her many aunts and uncles, Earlene and Henry House, Rose Patterson, Diane Patterson, Lucinda Patterson, Kenny Patterson, Roger and Angie Patterson, Roosevelt Patterson, Rodell Patterson, Sam Richard, and Godfrey Jackson; as well as a host of cousins and a special cousin, Athya Reed. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Roosevelt “Pudding” and Carrie Lou Spratt; and paternal grandparent, Carrie Jackson. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Elizabeth Mercado for her dedicated and compassionate care of Shamika. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025, from 2:00-3:00 p.m., at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Shamika’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Bishop Kathy Hughes.
