Sandra (Green) Evans

Mrs. Sandra (Green) Evans, age 63, of Utica, went to be with the Lord when she passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on March 11, 1946, Sandra was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Helena (Lewis) Green. She was raised and educated locally. On November 4, 1967 she married Sam Evans with whom she shared 38 years prior to his passing on April 18, 2006. Sandra enjoyed her career as a child caregiver because she loved nurturing and tending to children. At one time, she held a position at Utica Head Start as a cook. She also enjoyed working with the family of Ralph J. Eannace as a nanny. More recently, she was employed with Oneida County in the Medicaid Dept., the position from which she retired. Sandra’s family and friends were the focus of her existence, and her home was always open to them. She found joy in family gatherings, special occasions, and celebrations, where her cooking skills and macaroni salad were legendary among her loved ones and guests. She was a member of the St. Matthew Temple Church of God in Christ and was involved with the Church Sunshine Band. Sandra is survived by her children, Robert B. Evans and Crystal Wright, Andrea H. Evans and Albert Coan, Sam Evans, Jr. and Tyra Winston, and Veronica L. Evans, all of Utica; 22 grandchildren, Robert Darnell, Dena, Reese, Shamika, Tanisha, Reggie, Robert Jr., LaToya, Valestine, Nyhrobhia, J-Von, India, Kiara, Diamante, Barbara, Desmond, Derrick, Nyietta, Brittany, Alexus, Sam III, Qiaja; and 13 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her brother and sister-in-law, James and Martha Green of VA; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Juanita and Tom Monroe, Ransom and May Helen Evans, Dot Blair, Sueann Stevens, Archie Evans, and Rosetta Green. She also leaves her friends Gladys “Cookie” Newton and Winifred Daniels; and her godchildren, Mildred Hill, Cherie Foster, Michael Jackson and Jahdeed McCants. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00-1:00 at Believers Miracle Deliverance Ministries, Inc., 207 Eagle St., Utica. Sandra’s Home Going service will commence immediately upon the conclusion of visitation at 1:00 with the Rev. J.L. Griffin officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
