Sadie A. (Graziano) Farina

Mrs. Sadie A. (Graziano) Farina, age 86, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side, after a brief illness. Born in Utica on October 28, 1925, Sadie was the daughter of the late Joseph and Carmella (Troia) Graziano. Raised and educated locally, she attended T.R. Proctor High School. On July 30, 1947 she married Nicholas P. “Nick” Farina with whom she shared a 58-year union filled with true devotion and commitment to one another. Nick passed away on May 12, 2006. Sadie enjoyed her vocation as a housewife, tending to the needs of her husband and children. She was a doting wife, and a caring and selfless mother and grandmother. She was also an impeccable housekeeper and an exceptional cook, and her family particularly prized her savory Sunday dinners. Sadie was a genuinely thoughtful woman in all aspects, and she respected and regarded her relationships with much dedication, style, and grace. She was a zealous New York Yankees fan, and she loved listening to the mellow swing and big band music of her era. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Sadie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer E. and Richard DeVenezia of Remsen; her sons, Nicholas J. Farina, and David P. Farina, both of Utica; and her adored grandchildren, Emily, and Kristina. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends Theresa Sportelli, Remo and Marge Greco, and Frances Ficano. She was predeceased by her in-laws, Paul Farina, Daniel Farina, A. Victor and Anna Farina, and Sarah and Raymond Tedesco; and her friends, Pauline Talarico, and Frank Sportelli. The family extends sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for all the care and attention shown to Sadie and her family. The family will honor Sadie’s life at a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Sadie’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish in lieu of floral offerings; envelopes will be available at the service. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at the convenience of the family. The Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. is providing the guidance in lighting the path as the Farina family commemorates Sadie’s life.
