Mrs. Rose M. (Peppenelli) Puleo

Mrs. Rose M. (Peppenelli) Puleo, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Colonial Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Rome, with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on August 30, 1920, Rose was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Maria Gracia (Palazzi) Peppenelli. She was raised and educated locally. On September 7, 1946 in St. Anthony of Padua Church, she married Nicholas S. Puleo; they shared a loving union of 52 years prior to his passing on November 14, 1998. At one time, Rose was employed by the Skanandoah Cotton Mills. As the matriarch of her family, Rose took pride in preparing her Sunday macaroni dinners and gathering with her family. She also had a sweet tooth and delighted in her desserts. One of Rose’s favorite pastimes was playing cards, especially Rummy. She will be remembered for her friendly nature and engaging sense of humor that warmed the hearts of those who knew her. She was a proud participant in the “Puleo’s Cousins Club” and a member of the Legionnaire International Women’s Post #1290. She was a parishioner of the former St. Agnes Church. Rose is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Secor of Taberg, NY; her grandchildren, Laurie Piersma and her husband James, and Lisa Salerno, all of Rome, NY, and Stacy Lyn Secor of Bridgeport, NY; her great-grandchildren, Heather Come, and Nicholas Swald; and her sister, Gloria Pandolfo of Utica. Her extended family includes many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, sister-in-law Anne Puleo, and her dear friend, Diane Mullally. She was predeceased by her sisters and brother-in-law, Mary M. Peppenelli, Angeline Peppenelli, and Dorothy and Ed Nofri; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph Peppenelli, James A. and Antoinette Peppenelli, John Jr. and Celia Peppenelli, and Anthony and Lucy Peppenelli; her in-laws, Philip Pandolfo, Philip and Mary Jane Puleo, Ann F. Puleo, Michael J. Puleo, Providence “Provie” and Anthony Mazzola, Eunice Peppenelli, and John and Victoria Puleo; and her friend, Mary Grace Mageline. The family conveys thanks to the nurses and staff of the Colonial Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the kindness and care extended to Rose during her stay. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00-3:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Rose’s Committal service will commence on Monday at 12:00 noon in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel.
