Mrs. Rose M. (Barletto) Prokosch

Mrs. Rose M. (Barletto) Prokosch, age 94, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 8, 2011 in the comfort of her home with the support of her family by her side. Rose was born in Utica on January 22, 1917, the daughter of the late Pietro and Grazia (Cofano) Barletto. She was raised and educated locally. For over 50 years Rose was married to Francis J. Prokosch, her soul mate, who passed away on October 27, 2001; as a couple, they anticipated and met each other’s needs in a supportive way. During her working years, Rose was employed by the General Electric Company at a number of their locations, holding the position of assembler, prior to her retirement. Among Rose’s attributes were her selflessness and resilience as a woman of the “Greatest Generation”, and her memorable motto of “family first” which manifested itself in her constant concern for her children’s well-being. Her home was the crux of her happiness, the place where she celebrated special occasions, holidays, and each and every day with a festive meal and much love. Rose practiced her Catholic faith at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church and throughout the years displayed her devotion to Sts. Cosmo and Damiano. Rose is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Frank “Pinky” and Gail Prokosch of New Hartford; her twin daughters and son-in-law, Gail (Prokosch) Mellen of CA, and Graceann and Peter “Chip” DiMaggio of Whitesboro; and her grandchildren, Steven, and Matthew Prokosch; Christopher Bullivant, Carrie and Joshua Doxtader, and Julio DiMaggio/US Air Force. She also leaves her sister, Theresa Liszka of Utica; her brother, Joseph “Chuck” Barletto of SC; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, cousins, especially Teddy and Bud Pritchard, and Mimi Servello, all who have been devoted to her; and her in-laws, Angela “Lillian” Barletto, John Prokosch, and Mary and Louis Cimorelli. She was predeceased by an infant son; her brothers and sister-in-law, Frank “Windy” and Carmella Barletto, and Giacomo “Jack” Barletto; and her in-laws. The family is grateful to Rose’s home care aid, Geri; Dr. James Frederick and his staff; and Hospice & Palliative Care for their professional regard in caring for Rose. Rose’s family has honored and celebrated her life privately. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service, Celebration of Life, and committal prayers which will be held on Monday morning at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, offered by Rev. Anthony P. LaFache. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass.
