Rosalie Mary (Mancuso) Briggs

NY MILLS – Rosalie Mary (Mancuso) Briggs, age 85, was reunited with her beloved husband, TSgt. Douglas R. Briggs, when she passed away one day after what would have been their 46th wedding anniversary, on Monday, May 27, 2024. Born in Utica on April 4, 1939, Rosalie was the daughter of the late Jack G. and Anna E. (Wiater) Mancuso. She grew up on the family farm in Whitesboro and later relocated to Brookfield where she graduated from Brookfield Central School. On May 26, 1976, Rosalie wed TSgt. Douglas R. Briggs. Rosalie would have said that Douglas was a true gift sent to her from heaven, and their children would agree. They shared in a devoted union built upon love, loyalty, and compromise. They were truly meant to be together. The couple shared over 12 years of marriage prior to Douglas’ passing on August 17, 1990. Rosalie spent nearly 20 years working for Faxton Children’s Hospital. A portion of those years were spent working alongside her husband prior to his passing. Her inspiration to follow this career path stemmed from the hospital having once saved the lives of both her and her son. Rosalie was strong-willed, or as some would say, “stubborn!” She always provided for her children as they were her foremost priority. She would do whatever it took to ensure that they never went without. From affording them opportunities to travel to making sure they wore only the best prom attire, Rosalie truly was an angel here on Earth; her family was everything to her. Later in life, Rosalie lent a helping hand in being a second mother figure to her grandchildren. She shared a unique bond with each of them and they all had their own seasons with her. When spending quality time with her grandchildren, she took great pleasure in making sure they always had plenty of sweet treats. Rosalie never judged a soul based on where they came from and would only assist them in getting where they needed to be. Rosalie set the standard for being hard-working and selfless. Even in her final moments, she was more worried about the health and happiness of her family than her own. She was known as “everyone’s Nani.” Rosalie enjoyed donating her time volunteering at Notre Dame Bingo, and if she was not at Bingo, you could find her at the Turning Stone Casino trying her luck at the penny slot machines. She also enjoyed the excitement of crossword scratch-off lottery tickets. If you were ever sitting with her on her couch, you would be sure to be watching HGTV or the Hallmark Channel at maximum volume! Overall, Rosalie would consider one of her greatest accomplishments in life to have been instilling the value of family into the minds of her children and grandchildren. Rosalie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Anne (Morgan) Briggs, daughter, Ann Briggs and her best friend Kristie Lewis; grandchildren, Katie Briggs and her fiancé David Schieble, Jessie (Briggs) Yule and her husband Brandon, Shane Briggs; Nicholas Briggs-E. and his partner Chloe Cattadoris, Valentino Briggs, and Rosalina Briggs; honorary grandson, Brandon Wilson; great-grandchildren, Andrew O’Donnell, Madison Yule, and Owen Yule. She cherished in her heart the memory of her brother, Joseph J. Mancuso, who preceded her on May 31, 1969; as well as her granddog, her sweet Diesel boy. She also leaves to cherish her memory many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and cousins, especially Steven and Karen Wiater, Katie and Sal Marsala, their son Vinny, and Raychel Briggs. She was additionally predeceased by her in-laws, Floyd and Anna May Briggs, Linda “Cindy” Wishart, and Kenny Briggs. The Briggs family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. for their care and compassion. The family will honor and commemorate her life at a private time. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Rosalie’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life, which will commence on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s Church, 201 Main St., NY Mills. There will be an opportunity to greet the family at the conclusion of Mass. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions in Rosalie’s Honor may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. online at https://hospicecareinc.org/donate-online; envelopes will also be available at the service. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
