Robert Joseph "Bob" Manca

Mr. Robert Joseph “Bob” Manca, age 84, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on June 26, 1923, Robert was the son of the late Salvatore and Caroline (Sorentino) Manca. He was raised and educated in Utica, and was a proud veteran of the U. S. Air Force having served his country during World War II. On August 6, 1955 he married the former Marie Garcea with whom he shared a great love and devotion for 52 years. A respectful and warm-hearted man, Bob lived a simplistic, quiet life. He especially enjoyed his many summers at the Atlantic City seashore. He had an affinity for horses and appreciated their natural beauty. An avid horse racing spectator, he attended the yearly Travers Race at Saratoga. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Leo B. Wheeler Stars & Stripes Chapter #82, and a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Bob is survived by his wife, Marie; his sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Thomas Fierro of Utica; his many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Mary Manca, and Nicolena Manca, both of Utica, Joyce and William Redd of CA, Frank Dardano, Sr., and Dick and Marie Trinco, all of Utica. Bob also leaves his friends, Vincent Tramacera, Ralph Cimino, Marie Luce, Carol Pugliese and all his friends at OTB. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Dardano; his twin brother, Anthony Manca; his brothers, Dominick Manca, and Lawrence Manca; and his sister-in-law, Loretta Trinco. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center Intensive Care Unit, especially acknowledging Kim, Diane, and Carol; and Dr. Christopher Max, Dr. Ferraro, and Dr. Sudershan Dang for all the care and compassion they rendered to Bob. In keeping with Bob’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions in Bob’s honor to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish Fund or the Disabled American Veterans Leo B. Wheeler Stars & Stripes Chapter #82; envelopes will be available at the church. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
