Robert William Matt

NEW HARTFORD - Robert William Matt passed away unexpectedly from a massive heart attack on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 with his wife and sons by his side. Bob was born in Utica on April 1, 1953 to the late John A. Matt, Sr. and Virginia (Haley) Matt. Bob graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1971 and then went on to earn a BS in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University, his MBA from Union College, and an additional MS in Computer Science from RPI. Bob was currently a long-time employee of the Turning Stone Casino as a Senior Application Support Analyst. An electrical engineer by profession, Bob worked for many years for the General Electric Company (subsequently Lockheed Martin), Cortland Cable Company, and Bell Aerospace. In addition to his dedication to his career, Bob was also a long-time competitive swim official. On August 14, 1976, Bob wed the former Lucille Inserra. They would have celebrated 47 years together this month. Bob and Lucille had a whirlwind romance; they met and married within a single year. It was a bond that was established quickly and never weakened. Their marriage also facilitated the marriage of Bob’s younger brother, Jim, and Lucille’s younger sister, Rosemary. Together, the four of them became a tight knit family; they supported each other through many life events, both joyous and challenging, over many years. Bob leaves behind his beloved wife, Lucille; and two sons and their families: his eldest son, Ryan R. Matt and his wife Siân, and their children, Ryan Russel and Audrey E. Matt, and Bob’s youngest son, Craig A. Matt and his wife Ashleigh, and their daughter, Aurora E. Matt. He is also survived by his two brothers, John A. Matt Jr. and his wife Maureen, his youngest brother, James E. Matt and his wife Rosemary (Inserra) Matt; and his sister-in-law, Dolores Matt. Also surviving are Bob’s nieces and nephews, Brian J. Matt and his partner Bryan Fairbrother, Alycia (Matt) Magee and her husband Sean, and their two young children, James S. Magee and Izabelle R. Magee, John A. Matt, III and his wife Kimberly, Michael J. Matt and his partner Paul Batista, Patricia (Matt) Otis and her husband Jeff, Gary J. Matt, Jr. and his wife Katie, and Sean Matt. Bob is also survived by nine great-nieces and great-nephews; an aunt, Connie Inserra; and cousins, Patricia and Francis Inserra, Carol Cannerelli, and Elaine Paynter. Bob was predeceased by his brother, Gary J. Matt, Sr.; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, R. Robert and Vincenza (Rescino) Inserra. The family would like to especially thank their neighbors, Dr. Christopher Clark and his wife Linda for their immediate assistance the morning of Bob’s passing. While Bob was an avid Yankees, Jets, and Buffalo Bills fan, there was nothing he loved more than being with his grandchildren whom he adored. Bob’s memory will be a comfort to his beloved family. Rest in peace, Bob; your kindness, love, and spirit will never be forgotten. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Robert’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will commence on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Lourdes Campus, 2222 Genesee Street. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
