Mr. Robert E. "Bob" Lewis

N. UTICA - Mr. Robert E. "Bob" Lewis, age 89, fell asleep in death on Friday, September 22, 2023, surrounded in love by his family during his illness and passing. Born in Utica on August 26, 1934, Bob was the son of the late Albert E. and Olive S. (Hawley) Lewis. He graduated from Sauquoit Valley High School and furthered his education at Mohawk Valley Community College. Bob was a veteran of the United States Air Force. On October 1, 1960, he married the former June Burhyte. Together, they shared nearly 63 years of marriage. Bob was a detailed man who worked as a painter for Ray A. Evans & Sons for many years. He also worked in the facilities department of SUNY Polytechnic Institute, a position from which he retired in 1999. Bob was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and currently served as a ministerial servant in the Herkimer Congregation. He loved his Heavenly Father and regularly participated in Bible talks and meetings. He always thanked God for his many blessings. He will be remembered as a reliable, humble, and kind-natured gentleman. Bob was a devoted family man, always available for his loved ones’ needs. He enjoyed working around the home and in his yard. Bob and June also looked forward to their annual vacations to Virginia Beach. Bob is survived by his devoted wife, June; and his children and their spouses, Deborah and Nicholas Bonavita, Rebecca Siek and John, Sean Lewis, Daniel Lewis, Ryan and Rita Lewis, Damon and Lisa Lewis. Bob also leaves behind eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister and brothers-in-law, Jane (Lewis), Earl Bagley and Douglas Cuda. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; in-laws, Beverly Nelson, Douglas and Delilah Burhyte, and Pamela Cuda; much loved friends, David Giardino, Micah Crewell, Garth Evans and Jimmy Malagese. The family extends special thanks to the Pines at Utica Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for their extreme kindness and concern for “Mr. Lewis.” There are no calling hours. All are invited to join with family and friends in attending a Memorial Service on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 585 Trenton Road, Utica. By family request, please omit floral offerings.
