Mr. Robert W. "Bob" Fitzpatrick

Mr. Robert W. “Bob” Fitzpatrick, age 78, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with the love and support of his family. Robert was born in Utica on November 7, 1932, the son of the late Edward and Alice (Mallon) Fitzpatrick. He was raised and educated locally. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he honorably served his country from 1949-1953. On May 1, 1954, in St. Patrick’s Church, he married the former Edwina Lee with whom he shared 57 years. Bob worked as an Engineering specialist at the General Electric Company at both the Broad Street and French Road locations. At home and at work, he lived his Christian life serving and nurturing anyone who needed help, and when necessary, putting the needs of others before his own. Bob was a talented woodworker and his handcrafted items are displayed in his home and homes of his grandchildren. During his younger years, Bob played handball and was an avid golfer. Bob is survived by his wife, Edwina; his daughters and son-in-law, Debra Scalzo of GA, and Colleen and Joseph Ancona of Utica; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Lisa Fitzpatrick of Remsen; his grandchildren, Saverio Scalzo, Jr., Catherine and Brian Davis, Stefanie and Kevin Dorozynski, Melissa Ancona, Renee Fitzpatrick, and Vincent Scalzo; and his great-grandchildren, Stephen, and Anthony Dorozynski, and Aliyah Davis. He also leaves his sister, Kathleen Pettinelli, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, and in-laws, Josephine and Frederick Kilburn, Theresa and Robert Aliasso, Kathleen and Donald Broccoli, all of Utica, Roz Lee of New Hartford, Richard and Joan Lee, David (Lee) Lia, all of Myrtle Beach, SC, Aline Lee of Utica, and Barbara A. Lee, of New York Mills. He was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Edward and Julia (Calogero) Lee; his brothers, Edward, James, Victor and William Fitzpatrick; his sister, Alice Alfano; sisters-in-law, Bess and Gert Fitzpatrick; brothers-in-law, Pat Alfano, Pat Pettinelli, Carmen Lee and Deacon John Lee; niece, Julie Lindig; great-nephews, Daniel and Thomas Ryan; and special cousins, Reg and Monica Keats. The family would like to give special acknowledgment to Bob’s caregivers who offered great attention and support throughout the years. The family will honor and commemorate Bob’s life in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bob’s graveside committal service which will commence on Saturday morning at 9:30 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Rev. Richard Dellos will officiate and Military Honors will be conferred by the United States Air Force. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to St. Joseph and St. Patrick’s Church, the Thea Bowman House, or a charity of your choice; envelopes will be available at the service.
