Norberto López

UTICA – Norberto López, age 76, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 20, 2026 after a lengthy illness, with his loving family by his side. Born in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico, on February 21, 1950, Norberto was the son of the late Alfredo López and Maria Avilés. He received his primary education in Puerto Rico and, at the age of 16, relocated to the Utica area to live with his family. He later attended Mohawk Valley Community College, where he pursued vocational studies. On March 29, 1967, Norberto was united in marriage to the former Beverly J. Conkling, with whom he shared a loving and devoted union of over 50 years. Norberto was an HVAC technician by trade and held a position with the Friedrich Company for many years until his health prevented him from continuing. He was also a skilled painter and generously shared his talents by helping to paint the homes of loved ones and family members. He loved being able to lend a hand whenever needed. Norberto was an avid Mets fan, faithfully cheering them on even when the “stinky Mets” were losing. He also enjoyed frequenting Turning Stone Casino, where he could often be found at the keno machines. Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and sharp sarcasm, Norberto was known for beginning jokes in English and finishing them in Spanish. He brought laughter wherever he went. He adored his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his beloved German Shepherd, Cheyenne. He loved fishing and had a special appreciation for Ford Mustangs. Selfless and loving by nature, Norberto was always available to assist those he cared about in any way he could. Lovingly known by many as “Chaly,” “Charlie,” and “Pops,” Norberto was deeply cherished by all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly; sons, Norberto López Jr. and his spouse, Jodi Lynn Girantino. He was predeceased by his grandson, Simon Lopez., David López and his spouse, Lee Jackson; twins, Michael López and his spouse, Matia, and Anthony López and his spouse, Kimberly Wallace, Marvin López, and Pablo Goico; grandchildren, Joshua and Alyssa Nelson; Demetri López, Julianna Edick, Jillian Edick; Christopher Morreall, Chloe López, Mikey López Jr.; Julia and Dylan Taylor, Anthony Marcus López, Mia López, Madeline Lopez; great-grandchildren, Julianna and Joseph Nelson, Myla, and Daylon; sister, Gloria Estelle and her husband, David Luciano; and brother, Wilfredo López. He was predeceased by his sister, Idalia Morales-Pacheco. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Aurelio Morales; many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins; and in-laws, Rosemaria and Eric Laffin, Brenda Conkling, Fred and Cindy Conkling, James Conkling and Liz Lenaghan, Angelo Conkling and Tracy Lingo, Joseph “Joey” Conkling, and Patricia Conkling. Norberto was blessed with many special friends whose companionship meant a great deal to him. He was additionally predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Miguel “Angelo” and Louise “Pee Wee” (Vogt) Conkling; and his brother-in-law, Michael Conkling. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to case worker Jodi Colabro, Ms., CRNP, and the 7th Floor staff of Wilkes-Barre-O'Neill Hospital for their care, compassion, and professionalism. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Norberto’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
