Nicoletta "Nikki" Campanaro

Nicoletta “Nikki” Campanaro, age 72, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, April 03, 2008 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on April 2, 1936, Nicoletta was the daughter of the late William, Sr. and Carmella “Cora” (Candido) Campanaro. Raised and educated in Utica, she later attended the Utica School of Beauty Culture where she earned her credentials as a licensed beautician. At one time, she was married to George Abraham. For many years, Nikki was employed in the Hair Salon at the Boston Store and subsequently opened her own salon on Mohawk St. which she operated for many years. A beautiful, loving person, Nikki cherished her family as a devoted mother, sister, aunt, and niece, and she treasured the holidays that she shared with her loved ones. She also appreciated the beauty and serenity of the Adirondacks, especially the Old Forge area with its mountains, museums, and quaint shops that made the region so special to her. Nikki had an affinity for playing cards and enjoyed her visits to the Turning Stone Casino and Atlantic City. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and her patron saints, St. Jude and St. Anthony. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish and a member of the St. Jude League. Nikki held close to her heart the memory of her loving daughter, Donna Ann Abraham, who passed away on August 2, 2007. She is survived by her sisters, Josephine DeNigro, and Carmelita Verdura, both of Utica; her uncles, Raymond Candido, and Al Candido, both of Utica; her nieces and nephews, Rocco Verdura, Mary Ann DeNigro, John DeNigro, Jr., and William DeNigro; her great-nieces and great-nephews, Marissa, Gracelyn, Hannah, John, Billy, and Christopher; her cousins; and her friends, Rick Wray, Ralph Cimino, Rose DeSantis, and many other dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother, William Anthony “Bill” Campanaro, Jr.; her uncle, Joseph Candido; her aunts, Josephine Candido, Anne Candido, and Joy Candido; and members of the Campanaro, Marucci, Frasca, and Aquino families, all of Rome. The family extends appreciation to Dr. Mark Blaker, Dr. Ira Tisch, and Julie Elacqua from the Visiting Nurse Association for all their care and compassion; and nurses Dana and Kim of the 3rd floor of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center for their dedication in caring for Nikki. In keeping with Nikki’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Monday morning at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Nikki’s honor to the St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish Fund; envelopes will be available at the church. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
