Mr. Nicholas J. "Nicky" Sciortino

Mr. Nicholas J. “Nicky” Sciortino, age 48, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with his loving and devoted family by his side. Born in Utica on March 19, 1962, Nicholas is the son of Frank N. and Carmella (Ciacciarelli) Sciortino. Much of his education and activities were provided by the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) Armory Drive Campus. Nicky was a loving and caring young man whose happiness in life was to be surrounded by his family, sharing holidays, Sunday gatherings, plentiful food, and going to McDonalds especially on Saturday. And how he loved his coffee! Music soothed his soul, especially the smooth sounds of Frank Sinatra and musicians of that era. He was a loyal NY Yankees fan, and his room was adorned with the team’s memorabilia. Watching their games was an activity he especially enjoyed with his family. Nicky’s life was a blessing to his loved ones, especially his parents who watched over him with compassion and true love. Each day was connected to his well being and “Nicky” will always be a household name. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Nicky leaves his devoted parents, Frank and Carmella; and his sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia A. and Kenneth A. Klein of Utica. Survivors also include his nieces, Jennifer A. and Paul Barnes, and Kendra A. Klein; his uncle and aunt, Philip N. and Gloria Sciortino, who were also his godparents and never forgot a moment in his life; his cousins, with special mention of Linda Sciortino and Camille Sciortino, who were diligent in their daily concern; and his extended family of Gloria Klein. He was blessed with wonderful teachers, especially Dawn Puleo, who had a special relationship with him, and his family friends who have been an important part of his entire life. He was predeceased by his uncle, Angelo Ciacciarelli. For the past two years, Nicky has resided at the Upstate Cerebral Palsy Szczygiel House. The staff enhanced his needs with outstanding care and love. His family would be remiss not to acknowledge his fellow residents, caretakers at all levels, administrators, and physicians who had the gift of sharing love in a unique way. His social worker, Chris Nielson, was committed to his well being. Each person who touched Nicky’s life will never be forgotten by his parents and family. The Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center staff members were wonderful and compassionate, especially the 6th floor and CCU Units. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Nicky’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at the convenience of the family.
