Mr. Nicholas J. Brescia Sr.

Mr. Nicholas J. Brescia, Sr., age 87, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born in Utica on March 17, 1923, Nicholas was the son of the late Agazio “Michael” and Gaetana “Carrie” (Bellezza) Brescia. He was raised and educated locally. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he honorably served his country during World War II. On September 4, 1943 he married the former Genevieve “Jenny” Santino with whom he shared a loving union of 67 years complementing each other’s life. At one time, Nicholas was involved in the family concern, Brescia Furniture Store located on Bleecker St. Concurrently, he owned and operated Brescia Signs for many years, offering his knowledge, expertise, and craftsmanship to various charities and organizations. When younger, he was a talented bowler for many years and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Rome Veterans’ Association and he represented the Sign Men of Utica on the Utica Electrical Board. At one time he was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Nicholas is survived by his wife, Genevieve “Jenny”; his daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Thomas Morelle of Whitesboro, and Carol and Dan Brzana of Rochester; his son, Nicholas Brescia, Jr. of Utica; and the memory of his son, Joseph M. Brescia, who passed away on March 9, 2001. He also leaves his grandchildren, Bryan Morelle, Rob Morelle, Steve Morelle, Kevin Morelle; Thomas Brzana and fiancée Adrienne Del Duca, Christopher Brzana and Amanda Sharp, Jamie Brzana and William Dunne; and his great-grandchildren, Christopher Morelle, Zachary Morelle, and Krystin Dunne. Survivors also include his sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose B. Comito, Teresa Brown, and Carmella and Dominick Rose, all of Utica, and Patricia and Dr. Ramon Salas of Baltimore, MD; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Josephine Sullivan, and Jeanette Brescia, both of Utica. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Joseph A. Riccardi; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred A. Brescia, Anthony and Mary Brescia, Joseph J. and Betty Brescia, and Frank J. and Josephine Brescia. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Nicholas’ funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday afternoon at 12:00 noon from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Anthony P. LaFache with Military Honors. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
