Nancy M. (Guidera) Sardino

Nancy M. (Guidera) Sardino, of Clinton, formerly of Deerfield, died peacefully in her home after a courageous fight with cancer on Saturday, August 15, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Utica on March 3, 1921, Nancy was the daughter of the late Guiseppe and Josephine (Romeo) Guidera. She was raised and educated locally. She married James V. Sardino on October 13, 1945 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church in Utica, NY. They shared a blessed union of 51 years, devoted to each other until Jim’s passing, July 21, 1997. Nancy selflessly put others first and was a loving and devoted caregiver to her husband, Jim, for over 30 years. Prior to their marriage, Nancy was employed at Rome Air Depot where she worked on fighter planes and bombers during WW II and was always proud of the part she took in supporting the war effort. Through the years she worked in the cotton mills in Utica, GE, Cogar and ICL, retiring from there in 1985. She will be remembered for the great pride she took in her family and her home and also her cooking and baking. The neighborhood children always looked forward to Nancy’s homemade cookies. Throughout her life Nancy faced life’s challenges with faith, courage and her belief in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Nancy is survived by her devoted and caring children and sons-in-law, Lucille and Neil Fovel of Whitesboro, Nancy Murray of Clinton, and Jacqueline and Robert McIlwain of Clayville; and her son, James V. Sardino, Jr. of Clinton. Nancy’s eyes sparkled whenever she saw her grandchildren Christopher and Mary Ellen Fovel, Shawn and Justine Fovel, Jodi (Williams) Krainik and her husband John Krainik, Kimberly McIlwain, Jonathan and Kristi McIlwain, Vincent Sardino and his special friend Christie Natonio, and Tiffany (Sardino) Lupia and her husband Michael Lupia. Also her beloved great grandchildren Natasha Williams, Benjamin Fovel, and Emily Fovel who were the light of her life. Survivors also include her sister, Lucy Guerino of Utica; and her brother, Thomas G. Guidera of Utica; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Jeanette Sardina. Nancy is predeceased by her son-in-law William H. Murray, her brothers George, Luciano, and Joseph Guidera, and her sister Rose Borruso. The family wishes to thank Dr. Sultana Razia and staff, Dr. Toby Taylor and staff, Dr. Gilbert Lawrence, and Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of their mother. A very special thanks to Lily, Rose, Susanna, Ruth and Edna Stoltzfus without whom we could not have gotten through Mom’s illness. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Nancy’s funeral service will commence on Wednesday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Peter’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery.
