Nancy T. (Pugliese) Poccia

Mrs. Nancy T. (Pugliese) Poccia, age 89, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013 at The Pines at Utica with the love and support of her family. Born in Utica on January 29, 1923, Nancy was the daughter of the late Vito and Mary (Dorina) Pugliese. Her education included attending T.R. Proctor High School. On May 3, 1947 she married Richard P. “Dick” Poccia with whom she shared 58 years prior to his passing on November 15, 2005. They were blessed with a loving and devoted relationship and were truly complementary companions in life. Nancy was employed at Dawes Drugs, Rite Aid Pharmacy, and lastly, Parkway Drugs on Culver Ave. She was highly admired for her hallmark of tending to patrons with respect and personalized service. Her diligent work ethic was seen in her dedication for many years. During her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling with her husband to his army reunions and to their camp in Old Forge. Tending to her family gave her the most pleasure. Not only her children, but two generations that followed have memories of her kind and generous heart. Nancy’s greatest attribute was that she was a very attentive listener. She persevered with great determination and she lived long enough to see the accomplishments of her family of which she was so proud. Nancy was a prayerful soul and a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Nancy is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Sharon and Lawrence Ventura, and Mary Jane Jones and Paul Zito, all of Frankfort, and Jean Marie Irizarry of Utica; her grandchildren, Richard L. and Jennifer Ventura, Andrea and William Hollister, Lisa and David Miranda; and Jenna Irizarry; and her great-grandchildren, Anthony, Dominick, and Marsella; Alexis and Karleigh; and Dylan, Davin, and Dalton. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, especially Dick and Gloria Dote; and in-laws Clara LaScala, Doris Pugliese, Sally Pugliese, Robert Dellacese, and Anthony and June Poccia. For many Sundays, Nancy gathered at her home with friends Clara, Gussie, and Marie. She was fortunate to have a roommate, Teresa Pimpinella, with whom she shared her days, and the two were affectionately nicknamed the “Twins”. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Anna M. and Carl Preston; her brothers, Rudolph “Rudy” Pugliese, Joseph Pugliese, and Vincent Pugliese; and her in-laws, Salvatore LaScala, and Dolores Dellecese. The family is thankful to Dr. Thomas John for his professional concern; the nurses and staff of The Pines at Utica/2nd and 3rd Floors all who tended to Nancy with kind and compassionate hearts, with special mention of Geriann and Jasmine. Thanks also to Sal and Vito for many uplifting visits; and a special note of appreciation to Sarah Hensel for her home care and treasured friendship. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00-700 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Nancy’s funeral service will commence on Tuesday afternoon at 12:00 from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski.
