Miguel Angel "June" Rios-Hurdle

UTICA- Miguel Angel “June” Rios-Hurdle passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023 at the age of 23. He is now at peace with the Lord Jesus. Miguel was born in Syracuse on August 21, 1999 to his loving mother Melissa Torres. He and his mother relocated to Queens which is where he was educated. Miguel was a 2017 graduate of Brennan High School on Long Island. In 2020, the year of his 21st birthday, Miguel returned to Utica. Miguel worked as a package handler for UPS during the height of the COVID pandemic. He was social and outgoing, loved music, and had a gift for dancing. Miguel composed and sang his own music. Miguel was always interested in those around him, speaking thoughtfully and listening with a kind ear. From the time he was a young child he loved reading and writing poetry and music. He had an artistic imagination and enjoyed his expressive capabilities. He loved his family, and especially enjoyed reminiscing about the past. Miguel enjoyed exploring the streets of Utica, finding some independence as well as working on his mental health. He enjoyed shooting hoops with his cousins, and appreciated all types of music though hip-hop was his favorite. He found time to go the gym to work on his arms and abs. Interventions and services that he had throughout his life helped immensely to improve his well-being. Miguel had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord. Miguel possessed personal struggles, but had many people who loved him and helped him along the way. He tried to live his best life each day. Though Miguel’s passing was unexpected, with the help of God his family is hopeful that he is free from despair. His loved ones have hope that he is now living life anew with the Lord, and that he is resting in peace. Miguel is survived by his mother, Melissa; his grandmother, Maritza; and his precious son. He is also survived by his adoptive mother, Sharon Hurdle and her late husband Allen Tattum. He is also survived by his siblings and their loves, Jose “Macho” and Manny Torres, Anthony Flores and Desire Otero-Roman, Romeo Rios-Hurdle, and Alyssa Batt. He also shared life with additional siblings from the Rios and Hurdle families; and many nieces, nephews; an abundance of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many friends he met through his journey, but his little brother Romeo was his best friend. Miguel’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Renee from the Hope House and Mary Griffin from ICAN Outreach. Miguel was very appreciative of their friendship and open hearts, which gave him much direction.
