Mary R. (Cuccaro) Capraro

Mrs. Mary R. (Cuccaro) Capraro, age 98, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2009 at the St. Joseph Nursing Home. Born in Utica on July 4, 1910, Mary was the daughter of the late Carmen and Maria Antonia (Vitello) Cuccaro. She was raised and educated locally. On October 12, 1935 Mary wed Thomas L. Capraro with whom she shared 25 years in a supportive and loving marriage. As a couple, they complemented each other’s interests and shared many joyful and memorable times until Thomas’ passing on February 25, 1961. During her younger years, Mary was employed by the Oneita Knitting Mill and upon her husband’s passing she worked for a time at the Canteen Corporation at General Electric's Broad Street location. Mary found fulfillment in life by caring for her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was meticulous in the management of her home and was a gifted cook and a great baker. She was blessed with an endearing and witty sense of humor, and she enjoyed socializing at Tuesday night bingo. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Mary is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Louise Capraro of Chambersburg, PA, Thomas and Geraldine Capraro, and Gerard Capraro and Barbara Galvin, all of Utica; her grandchildren, Kevin Capraro of MD, Kathleen and Thomas Bell of Cincinnati, OH, Meredith Capraro of West Harrison, NY, Christopher and Victoria Capraro of Whitesboro, and Renee and Anthony Tramacera of NY Mills; and her great-grandchildren, Abigail and Noelle Capraro, Courtney, Karilynn, and Bryan Tramacera, and Nathan and Zoe Bell. Survivors also include many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and her sister-in-law, Carmella Capraro of FL. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rose (DeMarco) Miller, and Madeline and Anthony Pitrel; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dominick L. “Whitey” and Nicoletta “Nellie” Cuccaro, Daniel and Celia Cuccaro, and Pasquale and Rose Cuccaro. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the 2nd floor staff of the St. Joseph Nursing Home for the kind and loving care given to Mary. Visitation will be held Monday (today) from 5:00-8:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Mary’s honor to the St. Joseph Nursing Home; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mary's funeral service will commence on Tuesday morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
