Mary Ann (Clemente) Diecglio

Mrs. Mary Ann (Clemente) Diecglio, age 93, of Utica, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born in Utica on September 9, 1916, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Anthony P. and Angela Maria (Naimo) Clemente. A lifelong Utica area resident, she was raised and educated locally. On September 19, 1953 she married Francesco “Frank” Diecglio with whom she shared 38 years prior to his passing on May 25, 1992; they were true companions who supported each other in their loving union. Mary Ann began her employment at the Oneita Knitting Mill and then worked at the General Electric Company Radio Receiver division as an assembler. She was subsequently employed by the Utica City School District in the cafeteria department of John F. Kennedy High School, retiring in 1979. Mary Ann played an active and loving role in the upbringing and lives of her nieces and nephews, looking after them as her own. Quiet and unassuming, her nurturing and organized personality allowed her mothering instincts to shine through. She was a member of the North Utica Senior Center. She was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Church and served as past president of the Altar Rosary Society. Mary Ann is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Rocco F. and Frances Clemente of Utica; her nieces and nephews and their families, Philip Arcuri, Russell Arcuri, Angela Berberich, Anthony Arcuri, Frank Arcuri, Michael Arcuri, Joe Arcuri, Roc Arcuri, Paul Clemente, Loretta D’Alessandro, and Anthony Clemente; her cousins; and sister-in-law, Jessie Clemente of Utica. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Marie Philomena and Rosario “Lefty” Arcuri; and her brother, Michael Clemente. The family is grateful to the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center staff of the C.C.U. for their outstanding service and care, including Dr. Ira Tisch and his staff; Dr. Gerry Love and Dr. Prabhat Verma of Central New York Cardiology, Dr. James Bramley, and Dr. Jameel Arastu for their professionalism and compassion. In keeping with Mary Ann’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mary Ann’s funeral service which will commence on Tuesday morning at 10:00 at St. Peter’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Mary Ann’s honor to the American Diabetes Association; envelopes will be available at the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
