Mrs. Mary (Fresina) Scarano

UTICA - Mrs. Mary (Fresina) Scarano, age 97, went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. At the time of her passing, her loving family was by her side. Born in Scituate, MA on September 15, 1927, Mary was the daughter of the late Carl and Grace (Silipo) Fresina. Raised and educated in Scituate, she later attended Becker Junior College in Worcester, MA. On September 15, 1946, she married Frank A. Scarano with whom she shared a loving family, a happy home, and a beautiful devotion to each other. The couple shared a remarkable 77 years together prior to Frank’s passing on February 21, 2024. She was the last of her generation among her family. Caring for her home and family was always Mary’s foremost priority in life, and she never tired in her vocation as matriarch. In her spare time, she often volunteered in assisting and supporting her family with their activities and community events. She was a gifted and talented homemaker who loved to cook and bake. Mary hosted countless holidays and gatherings that featured her exquisite Italian delicacies ~ her family dubbed her the queen of the meatball Sundays. In her spare time, Mary enjoyed the peace and tranquility of knitting and sewing. She will be remembered for her kind heart and the harmony she inspired in her loved ones. She was a member of the Italian Heritage Club of the Mohawk Valley, formerly Sons of Italy, where Mary and her husband Frank served as Historians for over 35 years. Also, they were members of the Whitestown American Legion Auxiliary Post #1113 for 25 years. One of the highlights of Mary’s life was when she had the opportunity to travel to Italy with her husband. She practiced her Catholic faith at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Lourdes Campus. Mary is survived by her children, Barbara Roser (the late Gordon Roser), Gina and Darryl Marks, Christine Conte and her husband Nick Kowalchuk, and Carl A. Scarano; adored grandchildren, Derek and Beth Marks, Angela (Marks) Aurigema; Gianna (Conte) and Colin Crooks, and Alessandra Conte; and great-grandchildren, Joseph Aurigema, Nina Aurigema, and Nathaniel Marks, all of whose accomplishments she was so proud of. She cherished the memories of her siblings and their spouses who preceded her, John and Linda Fresina, Barbara and Lee Allen, and Carla and George W. Gates IV. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was additionally predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vitantonio and Barbara (Conte) Scarano; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leonard and June Scarano; and infant sister-in-law, Maria Grazia Scarano. The Scarano family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Saul Unit at the Katherine Luther Residential Health Care and Rehabilitation Center and the Caregivers staff of Utica and Liverpool for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions in Mary’s honor may be made to DAV (Disabled American Veterans) online at www.dav.org/ways-to-give; envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mary’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will commence on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Lourdes Campus, 2222 Genesee St. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
