Ms. Mary C. Roman

UTICA - Ms. Mary C. Roman, age 59, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by the love and prayers of her son, sister, and granddaughter. Born in Rome on May 4, 1964, Mary was the daughter of the late Herbert and Stella (Switzer) Roman-Drake. Raised in Hinckley, as well as Vernon Center, NY, she attended the Vernon Verona Sherill School District. Later on in life, Mary was blessed to give life to two children that filled her heart with love and purpose. While she resided in New Jersey, Mary held the position and also enjoyed being the manager of Dunkin Donuts for a period of time. This was perfect for her, matching her hospitable personality and love for serving others. Mary was known to be fastidious about her home, with everything having a place and being well appointed. She was a gifted conversationalist and could speak on anything. Mary held sacred the holiday of Halloween, including having fun and memorable parties at her sister Donna's house. She would have everything together from the decorations, yellow eyeballs, monster face pizzas, ants on a log, bobbing for apples, and the paradise of the children in the backyard parades. Mary was a real hoot! She was passionate about floral gardening, canning, and cooking- especially her delectable lasagna. She and her sister could renovate, design, and make over a home in very creative ways. Mary loved her pets dearly, especially her cat Tuxedo who always gave her a sense of comfort and security. She also had a Shi Tzu, Miss Fancy Pants, whom she loved just as much and who brought her the same amount of joy, and how she loved that dog! She collected things from others and turned them into treasures at her sales. She is now at peace with the Lord who surrounded her at all times of adversity. Mary is survived by her daughter, Jessica Ellsworth; and her son, Anthony Bumbolo. Also holding her memory close are her grandchildren, Emmett, Michael, Tyler, Gary; Chase, Brooke, and Zoey; her siblings and their loves, George and Jenny Switzer, Herbert Roman, Jr., Donna and Michael Roberts, Stephen and Ruth Roman, Walter Roman, Douglas Roman, and Howard Roman. Mary held the memory close of her late brothers, David Roman, and Brian Roman. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and friends, especially acknowledging Liz Perry, her childhood friend who will cherish her memory. Gratitude is extended to MVHS at St. Luke's Campus ICU physicians, nurses, therapists, and Dr. Scott Brehaut for his wisdom and compassion that he shared with the family. To supporters of donor families, an honor walk was a way to comfort Mary's family, and it served as a powerful way to say goodbye and give her a hero's send off. An additional special thank you to Lori Fiorentino, FNP of Palliative Care Services. A Memorial Gathering in Mary’s honor will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South Street, corner of Hammond Ave. Mary’s Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family graciously accepts floral offerings.
