Mrs. Mary Louise Quadraro

Mrs. Mary Louise “Mary Lou” (Scheri) Quadraro, age 89, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Lutheran Home embraced by the love and support of her family. Born on August 16, 1921, Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Ralph and Congetta (Giglio) Scheri. She was raised and educated locally. On February 26, 1944 she was joined in the Sacrament of marriage to Eugene E. Quadraro who passed away on October 29, 2002. Throughout their 57 year union, Mary Lou and Eugene admired each other and cherished their commitment to one another and to the values of family life. Mary Lou began her working career at the Kirk Guild Manufacturing Company. She then held a position as an assembler at the General Electric Radio Receiver Plant until its closing. A supportive and generous woman, she excelled in the art of hospitality. She had a flair for entertaining in her home, where her cordial and gracious gatherings made for memorable occasions. She established holiday traditions that are upheld to this day. She was loyal to her Sunday telephone communications as a way of respecting relationships and keeping in touch with friends and loved ones. Mary Lou was an advocate for family togetherness, and all in all, she enjoyed her life. She was involved in social activities at several East Utica organizations including the East Utica Senior Center, the Loyal Order of the Sons of Italy, and she was a member of the International Association of Machinists (IAM). As a pastime, she enjoyed bowling. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish and a member of the St. Anne Society, and the Bereavement Group. Mary Lou is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Robert Bliss of Rome; her son and daughter-in-law, Eugene F. and Mary Theresa Quadraro of Utica; her grandchildren, John, Jr. and Robyn Kulik, Michael and Melissa Kulik, Courtney and Bradley Gouger, Diane and Shawn Kain, and Allison Quadraro; and her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Hannah, and Justin. Survivors also include her brother and sister-in-law, William and Audrey Scheri of FL; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, especially acknowledging Theresa Haddad, and Natalie and Phil Caruso, and sister-in-law, Addie Scheri. She was predeceased by her brother, Francis “Frank” Scheri; her in-laws, infant Salvatore Quadraro, Carmen and Margaret Quadraro, Carmine and Vincenza “Betty” DeStefanis; and her favorite uncle, John Salerno. The family wishes to share their gratitude to her longtime physician Dr. Naji El-Khoury, to Dr. Cynthia Parlato, and to the outstanding staff of the Lutheran Care with special recognition of Christine, Diane, Karen, Duane, Crystal, Kim, Jeb and Veronica; as well as the entire third floor staff of the Applewood Unit. Visitation will be held on Friday (today) from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to Lutheran Care or the Regional Cancer Center; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Her funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by her cousin, Father Joseph Salerno.
