Mrs. Mary T. (Izzo) DeTraglia

UTICA - Mrs. Mary T. (Izzo) DeTraglia, age 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc. At the time of her passing she was in the hearts of those she loved most. Born in Calabria, Italy on October 18, 1921, Mary was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Felicia (Cardamone) Izzo. As a young girl, she immigrated to the United States with her family and settled in the Utica area where she attended local schools. On April 23, 1938 she married Salvatore J. DeTraglia, with whom she shared 60 years prior to his passing on October 19, 1998. As a couple, they respected one another and appreciated family life. Mary was employed by the General Electric Company at the Bleecker Street location as an assembler until its closing. As the matriarch of her family, she cared for her home, her husband, and her boys, and she was so proud of them. Mary was cordial and always welcomed friends and loved ones to her home. Christmas was an exciting time for her to carry out family traditions and observe religious obligations at Church. She was an excellent baker, and along with her siblings and in-laws, she prepared a festive feast at her house, filled with family, fun, and many memories that will live on. During her spare time, Mary enjoyed crocheting and knitting, especially baby gifts, playing BINGO, walking, and promoting her physical wellbeing. The camp at Sylvan Beach was the highlight of each summer. It was a place where her heart was at peace and the kids were together. She and her husband truly loved this time. Mary was a communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Her Catholic creed guided her life and her moral compass. She particularly enjoyed the bus trips to pilgrimages. Mary is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Anthony N. DeTraglia of Frankfort NY, and Salvatore J., Jr. and Lois (Oliva) DeTraglia of Naperville IL; her grandchildren, Alyse DeTraglia, and Mike DeTraglia; Salvatore J. III and Anne DeTraglia, Nina and Mark Gianfrancesco; and Terri DeTraglia (Todd’s wife). She held close to her heart the memory of her grandson Todd C. DeTraglia who passed away on April 2, 2015. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Mia, Ryan, and Luke Gianfrancesco; Nicholas, and Anthony DeTraglia; Ines DeTraglia, Ellie, Jack, and Kate Whitcomb; and Jami Weigand and her husband Brian; her great-great grandchildren, Joey, and Jake Weigand; her sister, Evelyn Cofano; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, godchildren, and cousins, and in-laws. Special thanks to her nephew Dominick T. Talarico and niece Felicia Talarico who were her angels on earth. She was also blessed with the friendship of many good people throughout her life. She was predeceased by her sister, Yolanda Talarico; and two younger brothers. The family is grateful to the personnel of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc. especially the Cedar Unit for the compassionate care provided to Mary. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-6 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mary’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday morning at 10:30 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Tom Servatius. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mary’s late grandson, Todd C.
