Mrs. Mary (Rouhana) Charbel

Mrs. Mary (Rouhana) Charbel, age 88, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Beirut, Lebanon on February 12, 1924, Mary was the daughter of the late Salim and Loulou (Fadel) Rouhana. She was raised and educated in Lebanon. In April of 1945 she married Emile G. Charbel who passed away on October 16, 2004; their 59 year union was based on mutual respect and importance of their family. Mary immigrated to Utica at age 62 to be closer to her family. She worked as a loving and dedicated homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Louis Gonzaga Church. Mary is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Samira Kerbage of Utica, Aida and Zouhair Freige of FL, and Rita Charbel of Utica; her sons and daughter-in-law, Assad and Jeanette Charbel of Utica, and Youssef Charbel of FL; her grandchildren, Emile and Carrie Charbel, Paul Charbel and fiancée Kristin Kosier, Fadi and Grace Freige, Nissrine Freige, Rabih and Allison Freige, and Roberto Kerbage; and her great-grandchildren, Aiden, Soraya, Samuel, and Julian. She is also survived by her brothers, Jean, and Michele, both of Lebanon; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, with special mention of the Maloof, El-Bach, and Hallak families; and her in-laws, Marie Charbel, and Faride Charbel, both of Lebanon. She was predeceased by her sisters, Linda, and Georgette; and her in-laws, Blanche and Emily Charbel. The family extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Naji El-Khoury and his staff, as well as the nurses and staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, the Senior Network especially Debra Penree, RN, the staff of the Visiting Nurses Assn for all their care and compassion, and the faith community of St. Louis Gonzaga Church and St. Mary’s Guild especially Chorbishop John D. Faris, Deacon Paul Salamy, and Father Bassam Saade for all their prayers and support during this difficult time. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 11-1 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The Prayer of Incense will be offered on Sunday at 12:45. Mary’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday morning at 8:00 from the funeral home and at 9:00 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be offered by Chorbishop John D. Faris. Committal services will follow in Christ Our Savior Mausoleum Chapel at Calvary Cemetery.
