Mary Rose (Muraca) Capri

Mrs. Mary Rose (Muraca) Capri, age 97, of Whitesboro, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Presbyterian Home for CNY with the love and support of her family. Mary was born in Utica on June 28, 1913, the daughter of the late Thomas and Carmella (Amelio) Muraca. She was raised and educated locally. On August 30, 1939 she married Louis N. Capri who passed away on June 14, 2005. Having known each other since the days of their youth, Mary Rose and Louis were friends for 75 years and husband and wife for 66 of those years, a blessed union filled with mutual love and devotion. During her working life, Mary was employed by the Horrocks-Ibbotson Company, a fishing equipment manufacturer well established in the Utica area. She later held a position at the Boston Store for 21 years. Concurrently, she also served as the cafeteria manager at St. Agnes Elementary School. Mary was a loving, caring matriarch with a great sense of family and a supportive and sincere love for her grandchildren. During her spare hours, she worked on her knitting, crocheting, and embroidery, and everyone was presented with an afghan she crafted. She loved tending to her garden, and cooking and baking with its bounty. Devoted to her Catholic faith, she was a former parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish and currently a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Mary is survived by her son, Patrick L. “Butch” Capri, with whom she shared a home for many years, and her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Ed “Doc” DeVoy of New Hartford; her grandchildren, Teresa L. and Seth Homer of Clinton, Louis P. and Debbie Capri of Manlius, Joseph T. and Agnes Capri of Utica, Kelly L. and Kevin Speicher of Clinton, Joseph Loisell, Irene Loisell, Christopher DeVoy, and Maria Everson; her many great-grandchildren; and her 3 great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, she leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends, especially Lillian Bohrer. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Samuel “Sam”, Sr. and Bertha “Gert” Muraca; and her sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Peter DelVecchio. The family is grateful for the loving care and attention shown to Mary by the nurses and staff of the Elm Unit of the Presbyterian Home for CNY; and the professionalism of her primary care physician, Dr. Francis Chabot. The family will honor and celebrate Mary’s life in a private gathering. Interment will take at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
