Mary Ann (Santa Croce) Hynes

Mary Ann (Santa Croce) Hynes, age 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2017 in the privacy of her home with her devoted family by her side. Born in Lackawanna, NY on January 15, 1945, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Emilio J. and Elvira (Gaetano) Santa Croce. She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY/Upper Division. A proud veteran, she was a Reservist in the United States Navy. At one time, she was married to the late Jon C. Hynes, Sr., and to that relationship came the blessing of her beloved son. Mary Ann worked as a civil servant for Oneida County where she held several supervisory positions within the county services until she retired in 2007. Concurrently, she owned and operated the M&B Security Company. She loved this business and the people that worked for her, and she enjoyed gathering with her co-workers socially. She treated people with respect and was admired for her work ethic and fairness as an employer. It was a grand time in her life. Mary Ann was fiercely independent, well-organized, and strong-willed. She was a creature of habit for many years, but she ultimately found time to break the routine. Taking in a movie at the theater was just as entertaining as watching one in the convenience and comfort of her home. She preferred legal drama television shows that showcased the law and the court system, and she was a trekkie who collected memorabilia of the original Star Trek series. She enjoyed cultural and historical museums. Weekend getaways included New England whale watching tours, trips to Salem, Massachusetts, and sightseeing the majestic wonder of Niagara Falls. Because these experiences would be permanently etched in her mind and committed to memory, she would visit a place only once. Mary Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jon C., Jr. and Tracy Hynes of Clay, NY; her grandchildren, Madelyn “Maddie” Hynes, and Ryan Hinman; many cousins; and her best friend, Elaine Adsit with whom she shared a home. The family extends great appreciation to the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. who provided Mary Ann the opportunity to be in the comfort of her home under the auspices of their loving care. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mary Ann’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday evening at 6:00 at the conclusion of visitation with Sister Elizabeth Giarrusso, CSJ officiating the ceremony. Donations may be considered to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society online at https://stevens-swan.org in honor of Mary Ann’s love for animals; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Entombment will take place in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
