Mark B. "Bud" Marriott

Mr. Mark B. "Bud" Marriott, age 81, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with his family by his side. Born in Rome, NY on February 11, 1927, Mark was the son of the late Mark and Harriett (Marriott) Marriott. Raised and educated in Utica, he also attended Clinton High School and Utica College. A veteran of World War II, Mark was a member of the Merchant Marines and the U. S. Army Transport stationed in the European Theater of Operations. He also served as a reservist after his honorable discharge. On February 19, 1948 he married the former Rosemary Laterza with whom he shared 60 years in a loving relationship that was supportive of each other’s concerns; honesty and respect was the foundation of their relationship. Mark was a self-employed contractor for many years, gifted with an innate talent of carpentry and precision in his work. A gentle, soft-spoken man, his sensitive nature was seen in his ability to converse with others in such a kind and tender manner. He truly loved the outdoors, especially enjoyed his passionate pastime of fishing year round and his numerous expeditions. In his later years, Mark wrote many poems, one of which titled "The Kingdom That's Coming", was published in the National Library of Poetry. He was also an avid golfer, frequenting the area fairways and often sharing his love for both sports with friends. He was a wonderful husband, an exemplary dad, and an attentive poppy who would take his grandchildren for walks, especially through the golf course. A God-loving man, it was important to Mark to share with people the teachings of the Bible whether through home visits or taking part at meetings to speak about God's Kingdom. His beliefs gave him a great sense of fulfillment and he served faithfully as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the Herkimer Congregation. Mark is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary; his sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Peter and Janet Tinelli Marriott of Sauquoit, and David B. and Kristine Marriott of Utica; his grandchildren, Julie DeRoller, Andrea Marriott, David Marriott, Anthony Lupino, and John Lupino; and his great-grandchildren, Aubrey, John Jr., and Rocco. Survivors also include his brothers and their wives, John, Charles, William, and Bruce Marriott; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Dorothy Laterza and family. He was blessed with many wonderful longtime friends, especially acknowledging Harvey LaPointe, and Peter Molina. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Marriott; and his brother-in-law, Joseph A. Laterza, Sr. The family wishes to thank the Birch Unit staff of the Presbyterian Home for the support and goodness extended to Mark and his family, as well as the 6th floor staff at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center for their compassionate care. A memorial gathering will be held Friday (today) from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Mark’s honor to the Presbyterian Homes Foundation; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. A Funeral Talk will commence on Friday evening immediately upon the conclusion of the gathering at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Elder Gary McConnell officiating.
