Mario F. Rico

Mr. Mario F. Rico, age 82, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with the support of his wife and daughter by his side. Born in Utica on September 8, 1927, Mario was the son of the late Nicholas and Maria Filomena (Villa) Rico. Raised and educated locally, he was a 1946 graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he proudly served his country from 1946-1948. On April 24, 1954 he married the former Frances (Arcuri) Alcuri with whom he shared nearly 56 years in a devoted union. Mario’s working life spanned many years. He was employed by Associated Transport as a driver until the company closed. He then worked for Rite-Aid Pharmacy in Rome, as a truck driver, retiring in 1989. A man of simple pleasures he provided for his family with much commitment. One of his favorite hobbies was woodworking, and he leaves many lasting treasures to his loved ones. He was a member of the Teamsters Local #182, and he was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Mario is survived by his wife, Frances; and his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine C. and Edmund L. Lasek, Jr. of Whitesboro. Always close to his heart was the memory of his son, Mario F. Rico, Jr.. He also leaves his grandchildren, Eddie Lasek of Latham, NY, and Audrey Lasek, of Whitesboro. Survivors also include his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law, Eva Rico and Carmella Arcuri. He was predeceased by his brother, Carmen Rico. The family is grateful to Mario’s physicians, Dr. Mathew Ulahannan and Dr. Ahmad S. Mian, and the outstanding staff of the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center's, CCU and 5th floor as well as the hospital's pastoral staff; their compassion attentive care and hospitality was a great support to Mario and his family. Frances also wishes to thank all of her family for their love and devotion during these difficult days. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mario’s funeral service will commence on Saturday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place in the Calvary Mausoleum with military honors.
