Mario Nasti

Mr. Mario Nasti, age 73, of Marcy, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. Born in the city of Bari, Italy on October 20, 1935, Mario was the son of the late Michele and Celestina (Capurusso) Nasti. He was raised and educated in his home town and was also a student at the collegiate level. He served the community of Bari in the justice system. On August 5, 1967 in Italy he married the former Grazia Ferarra; the couple relocated to the United States and settled in Utica in 1968 where they shared 41 years as true companions in life’s journey. Mario’s devotion to his wife was obvious, even as he escorted her on daily errands. For many years Mario worked as a machine operator at Joseph & Feiss Company. Along with his brother Antonio, he co-owned and operated Bari Pizza in Whitesboro until its closing. He was known in the Italian community to assist others, especially those who needed translations of personal matters and retirement concerns. At one time he was an Italian commentator on “Voice of the New Italy”, sharing his knowledge and views of Italian culture. He recently honored the day dedicated to his patron saint, St. Mario, with a family celebration. His family and his cultural traditions meant everything to him. He was an avid reader of the daily newspaper, especially the Italian “America Oggi”, was proficient writing in Italian, journaling events in his life, and communicating with those who lived locally as well as in Italy. He remained astute to current events and political concerns, and enjoyed the programming on the Rai International television network. He was a fan of soccer, a sport that he played in his youth in Italy. Mario was so proud of his heritage that he honored it each day of his life. He valued the customs and shared his knowledge whenever he could, and he fulfilled his daily life by helping others to accomplish everyday tasks. He was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Mario is survived by his wife, Grazia; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucia Ladisa of Bari, Italy, Grazia Aversa of Hawthorne, NY, and Anna and Pasquale Carfagnini of Bari; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Salvatore and Franca Nasti of Bari, and Antonio and Santina Nasti of Marcy. Survivors also include his nieces and nephews, including Celestina and Jason Valenti, Grace Nasti, Celeste and Frank Adipietro, Maria and Steve Leone, Michael and Danielle Nasti, Francesca Aversa, and Diana and Michael Ramirez; his great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Domenica Nasti, Antonia Nasti, Letizia and Joseph Columbo, and Orazio Ferrara. He also leaves many family friends especially acknowledging Susie Stucchi, and Frank and Maria Muccari. He was predeceased by his brothers, Giuseppe Nasti and Vittorio Nasti; and his brothers-in-law, Giuseppe Ladisa and Luigi Aversa. The family is grateful to Mario’s longtime physicians, Dr. Francis Constantine, Dr. Kevin Mathews, and Dr. Kevin Nelsen; the Maynard Fire Department, and the St. Elizabeth Medical Center Emergency Room staff for their assistance during his untimely passing. Visitation will be held Friday from 9:00-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mario’s funeral service will commence on Friday afternoon at 12:00 noon from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
