Mrs. Marie (Manning) Evans

Mrs. Marie (Manning) Evans, age 89, a longtime resident of Utica and Clinton, gently passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 in Salem, Massachusetts, after a brief illness. She had returned a few years ago to Salem, her original hometown, to be closer to family. Born in Salem, MA on August 27, 1927, Marie was the daughter of the late Roger Craig and Marie (Lebel) Manning. She was married to John R. “Goat” Evans, Jr. with whom she shared 53 years prior to his passing. While Marie was primarily a housewife raising a family, she was employed part time in various positions at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Slocum-Dickson Clinic, and Mohawk Valley Community College. She enjoyed time with her friends and family and was an avid reader. She was also very interested in art, home decor, and the game of bridge. She was an active member of the Oneida County Republican Party and also provided support to other community and church associations and causes. Marie leaves behind her 5 children and their spouses: Rebecca M. Poltack and husband Stanley of Longmeadow MA, Elin A. Evans-Simone and her husband Richard of Cambridge MA, John R. “Jack” Evans III and his wife Paula of Shrewsbury MA, Jeffrey G. Evans of Vail CO, and Amy M. Evans of Salem; her 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel J. Manning and his wife Anna, Roger C. Manning and his wife Betty of Glens Falls, and Donald J. Manning of New Hartford; and her sister-in-law, Phyllis Coloton and her husband Russell. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 6th from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Joslin Diabetes Center, Development Office, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215 or online at http://www.joslin.org; envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Marie’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, 2 Barton Ave., Utica where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Joseph Salerno. Inurnment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery.
