Marie C. (Fraccola) Carzo

UTICA – Marie C. (Fraccola) Carzo, age 96, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023 with her loving family at her side. Born in Utica on May 14, 1926 Marie was the daughter of the late Louis and Julia (Salerno) Fraccola. She received her elementary education at local schools and attended T.R. Proctor High School. Marie received her Registered Nursing Degree from Bellevue School of Nursing in 1948 and her Bachelor’s Degree from Oneonta State University in 1973. Marie was also admitted to the United States Cadet Nursing Corp and loyally supported that organization for multiple years. Marie was married to Joseph Carzo in 1948 until his passing in 1989. Marie and Joe shared a wonderful life together raising their family with values from their cherished Italian heritage as well as their always present sense of humor. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are forever grateful for the examples set by Marie and Joe. Marie spent most of her career as the Head Nurse of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Emergency Room. Her compassionate, professional care touched many lives throughout her tenure during many families’ most difficult times. A beloved, active matriarch, Marie loved the Yankees, and enjoyed golf, bowling, dancing, dominos with her friends, and taking many long walks with therapeutic benefits. She also kept a meticulous exterior to her home. Her independence and spirit made her a role model for her entire family, and her focus was always on the happiness and well-being of those she loved. She was admired for her impeccable style of dressing and always had a smile as she entered a room. Marie is survived by her children and their spouses, Frank and Cindy Carzo, Joseph J. “Joe” Jr. and Pam Carzo, Jim Carzo; Leslie and Tim Pendergast; and the memory of her infant daughter Leslie Ann Carzo who passed away in 1949; her grandchildren, Nicole and James Hill, Frankie and Lindsey Carzo; Joe and Sarah Carzo, Jackie and Mike Maj; Greg Pendergast, Taylor and Dean Accomando, and Lia Pendergast; and great-grandchildren, Jack, and Nick Hill; Portofino “Fino” Carzo; Michael, and Marco Maj. She also held a special place in her heart for her companion, Ray Cardinale with whom she shared many wonderful experiences in her later years. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Fraccola and leaves behind her sister-in-law, Ruth Fraccola. She was also preceded by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Ida and Joseph Kupiec, Anna and Albert Petronio, Flora and Phil Rabice, and Betty and Pat Rabice. She will also be remembered by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; in-laws, Anthony and Carol Carzo, Frank Jr. and Josie Carzo, Mary Ann and Joseph Guzzetta, Phyllis Carzo, Cindy Carzo, the late Rocco L. and Lena (Dispirito) Carzo, the late Carmen Carzo, the late George Carzo, her late sister-in-law, Filomena “Mena” Carzo; and the many faithful friendships she made over the years. She was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Anna (Aurigema) Carzo. The family extends their sincere thanks to all the caregivers at the Cedarbrook House at Sitrin Health Care Center, Suffield by the River and the Suffield House, Suffield, CT, that attended to Marie’s needs in recent years, their professionalism and compassion were very much appreciated. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions in Marie’s honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital online at www.stjude.org/donate or, in honor of her love for animals, to Anita’s Steven Swann Humane Society online at www.anitas-sshs.org/donate; envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Marie’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt.
