Margaret M. (Matrulli) Mardany

NEW HARTFORD – Margaret M. (Matrulli) Mardany, age 86, went home to God in heaven above on January 3, 2026. Born in Utica on October 8, 1939, Margaret was the daughter of the late Manfred A. “Fritz” and Margaret (Ferrera) Matrulli. She was a proud graduate of T.R. Proctor High School, Class of 1958. She then attended Empire State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She later furthered her studies to become a certified teacher in New York State. Marge had a beautiful soul, but what truly shone was her artistic talent, displayed in so many ways. She was blessed with a great sense of humor and a love of laughter. Her personal presence reflected the traits of a true artist—creative, expressive, and full of vision. With that unique perception, she could see the potential in a blank palette and transform it into its greatest expectation. At one time, Margaret was married to Edward G. Mardany, of which they had two sons that Margaret loved and cherished throughout her life. Margaret spent her entire career as an art teacher with the Utica City School District. She was adored by her students and fondly remembered throughout the years. She was credited with encouraging students to expand their skills and capabilities. Margaret was also a prominent local artist, with her work displayed at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute art shows and numerous other exhibits. Her art encompassed many mediums over the course of her career, and she loved to experiment, using oil paints, watercolors, pastels, stencils, and more. Margaret was a devoted mother who played a central role in her sons’ lives, giving them all the love she could. She will forever hold a place in their hearts. Margaret was a proud supporter of Munson and surrounded herself with people who shared her passion for the arts. She also donated to PETA, always considering the well-being of animals. A devoted cat lover—whether her own pets or strays—they warmed her heart. Margaret made it a point to make the holidays special for her sons, creating memories and treasured moments that will last forever. She was a beautiful woman with a great sense of personal style. She will be remembered with affection by those whose lives she touched. Margaret was born into the Catholic church and a spiritual person who lived a selfless life. Margaret is survived by her sons, Louis G. Mardany, and Edward M. Mardany; her brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Ann Marie Matrulli; and her brother-in-law, Michael Cordo. She was preceded in death by her sister, Judith Ann “Judy” (Matrulli) Cordo. She is additionally survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She always recalled her long-lasting friendship with Cheryl Fletcher, a fellow teacher at T.R. Proctor High School, as well as many other colleagues and friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staffs of the Betsy Ross Nursing Facility and the Utica Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for the love, kindness, and support shown to Margaret. Her family remains deeply grateful for their care. A Memorial Gathering in Margaret's honor will be held at the convenience of the family.
