Marcella Rubino

Marcella Rubino, age 50, was reunited with her parents, the late Sante and Yvonne Rubino, when she passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Marcella was born on July 15, 1963; the youngest daughter of 8 children. After graduating from TR Proctor High School with honors, Marcella attended the St. Elizabeth’s College of Nursing. She was employed for many years by St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital, MetLife Insurance Company, and the former Alfredo’s restaurant; a place where she worked alongside her brothers and sister and made many lasting friendships. Marcella will be remembered by all for her love of sports, admiration for humor, an appreciation for music, and as those who knew her best, a deep affection for her television. Above all else, Marcella put her family first and adored them dearly. Although this sudden loss has created a void that will never be filled, she will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of her beloved family and friends. Marcella is survived by her brothers, sisters and their spouses, Lee and Santo Tomaino, Liz and Anthony DeCarolis, Santina and Pat Gatto, Peter and Susan Rubino, Angela Rubino and Walt Becraft, Marco and Rose Rubino, David and Francine Rubino; her nieces and nephews who were like her own children, Michael Tomaino and Erin Kirby, and Mareesa Tomaino and Larry Dick, Jeffrey, and Jennifer Rubino, Marco Rubino, Jr. and Dawn Schmidt, Joseph, and John Gatto, Janessa, Jordanna, and Sofia Rubino; great nephews, Marco Rubino III, and Cooper Dick; and her extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins throughout Italy and Belgium. She was blessed with the 45 year friendship of her childhood friend, Julie Spanfelner. She also had a great love and affection for her dog Mia. “To Aunt Marchie, thank you for being the best aunt to all of us, for always going above and beyond, and for filling our lives with laughter and unconditional love. To our sister Marcella, not a day shall pass that we won’t think of you fondly, remembering all the beautiful times we have shared together. You are going to be greatly missed and eternally loved by all of us.” The family will gather at a private time. A future memorial service will be held at her home parish of St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church at a date and time to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities Camp Nazareth Program, in memory of Marcella Rubino, C/O 1408 Genesee Street, Utica, NY 13502, to assist underprivileged children and give them the opportunity to enjoy and partake in Marcella’s love of sports. She will be laid to rest alongside her parents in Calvary Cemetery.
