Mrs. Lydia M. (Rosas) Quiles

Mrs. Lydia M. (Rosas) Quiles, age 87, of Utica, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her family by her side. Born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico on September 8, 1928, Lydia was the daughter of the late Cesareo and Eulogia (Arce) Rosas. Raised and educated in Puerto Rico, Lydia moved to New York City and in 1980 relocated to Utica. On February 23, 1946 she married Sixto Quiles, Sr. with whom she shared nearly 70 years. It was love at first sight and a marriage made in heaven. They were blessed with mutual love, support, compassion, and understanding which enabled them to be excellent parents. Lydia cared for her husband, children, grandchildren, and home, and as a matriarch and mother, she was an excellent role model. She was blessed with a humble and heartfelt maternal nature that was an inspiration for her hospitality, generosity, and respect for all. During her spare time, she enjoyed knitting; reading poems and forever… she loved being with her family and grandchildren. For over 50 years, Lydia was a devout parishioner and of the Asamblea de Iglesias Cristianas Inc. Pentecostal Church since her arrival to Utica. Lydia is survived by her husband, Sixto; her children, Lydia E. Quiles, Gisela Nieto and Ed Algustowski, Myrna and Craig Harvey, Leonard Sr. and Mary Quiles, Angel Luis Quiles, Noel Quiles, and Abel Quiles. Always close to her heart was the memory of her son, Sixto Quiles Jr., who passed away in October of 2013. She also leaves her grandchildren, Audrey and Tim Harris, Jackie and Chris Liss, Cynthia Nieto and Darnell Hymes, Anianna Quiles, Gabrielle and Leonard McKinsey, Lana Harvey, Savannah Harvey, Tatyana Harvey, Maribel Jones, Phil Rosa Jr., David Rosa and Amber Platt, Jason Quiles, Fernando Harvey, Sixto Quiles III, Noel Quiles Jr., Abel Quiles Jr., Jona Quiles, Leonard Quiles Jr., and Sady Lee Quiles. Also surviving are her 31 great-grandchildren with mention of Maurice and Santina, Anaiya, Anari, Tanisha, DyQwan, DeAndre, Marcus, Sophia, Ayanna, Melissa, Asia, Ty-Giovanni, Charlotte, David Jr., Aubrianna, Makaila, Melina, and Scarlett; her great-great-grandchildren, Rosalina, Aryeanna, Avi, Le'Niya, Le'Anna, Liviana, Alyssa, Demonte and Valentina; her siblings, Elizabeth Rosas, Tony Rosas, Daisy Rosas, Saria Rosas, and Fernando Rosas; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and all the members of the Quiles family. She was predeceased by her sisters, Margarite Rosas, Mayriam Rosas, brother Julin Rosas, and granddaughter Zabrina Quiles. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Lydia’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday at 12:00 noon at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Pastor Martin Atayde officiating the ceremony. Interment will take place graveside in Forest Hill Cemetery.
