Mrs. Lucy (Russo) Daniels

Mrs. Lucy (Russo) Daniels, age 84, of New Hartford, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2012 in the comfort and dignity of her home with her loving and devoted children by her side. Born in Utica on March 10, 1928, Lucy was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Sardarella) Russo. Raised and educated locally, she graduated from T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1946. On August 10, 1949 she married Daniel "Dan" Daniels, Jr. with whom she shared 63 years as best friends in a beautiful relationship enhanced with love, respect, and laughter. As a couple, they knew each other's moves like good dancers. She truly cherished Dan and has mourned his loss and missed him since his passing on February 25, 2012. A self-taught Stenographer, Lucy held the position of Confidential Secretary to the Probation Director, Frank Scalise, of Oneida County for 27 years, retiring in 1995. In 2000, she returned to the workforce as a Claims Processor for HEAP until 2011. As a diamond has many facets, so did Lucy's life; it was blessed with humor, laughter, direction and purpose, a loving heart, and sparkling eyes that were admired by many. She was fun loving, spirited, witty, thoughtful, conversational, loyal, family oriented, and unforgettable. Lucy was devoted to her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. She was quite the entertainer, gathering her family and friends at 1147 Tilden Avenue homestead for coffee and chatter every weekend. She was skilled at cooking, often tasting a fancy dish at a restaurant and re-creating it at home. She was a former secretary of the Oneida County Women's Golf League, the Oneida County Democratic Executive Committee secretary, and former treasurer of the Oneida County Golf League. She was also an avid golfer and bowler, and sometimes enjoyed games of chance at the Casino. She was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Lucy is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Patricia Daniels-King of Plantation, FL, and Marcia Daniels-Rogers and her husband Brent Rogers of Davie, FL; her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Janet Daniels of Merritt Island, FL; her 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters, Mary R. D'Onofrio, and Virginia R. "Ginny" Cecilia, both of New Hartford; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws Shirley Viscera of CA, Olga and Ralph Grandinette of New Hartford, Paul and Frances Daniels of Marcy, Theresa Daniels of Utica, and Dora Russo of Frankfort. A testament to Lucy's life is the number of dear and cherished friends whose lives she touched. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Edmund DeCarlo; her brothers, Frederick, Louis F., Anthony J., Nicholas, and Infant Thomas Russo; her son-in-law, Leonard M. King; and her in-laws, Sandy and Michael Caruso, Jeffery E. "Barney" Daniels, Sr., Rocco D'Onofrio, and Peter J. Cecilia, Sr. The family is extremely grateful for the extraordinary care and compassion shown to Lucy and her family by Dr. Norman Neslin and Erin Rumbutis, and Dr. Sudershan Dang and his staff, including Barbara, Theresa, and Gina. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Memorial contributions in Lucy’s honor may be considered to the American Kidney Foundation; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.Lucy's funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Committal Prayers will take place in Christ Our Savior Chapel at Calvary Cemetery.
