Mrs. Lucy (DeMartino) CalendaChippoletti

Mrs. Lucy (DeMartino) Calenda Chippoletti, proudly 101 years of age, of Frankfort, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, November 1, 2010 at the Masonic Care Community of NY with the love and support of her family by her side. Born in Utica on July 19, 1909, Lucy was the daughter of the late Dominic and Angeline (Scandura) DeMartino. She was raised and educated locally. In 1927 she was married to Anthony Calenda who passed away in 1938, and to that relationship came the blessing of her two daughters. In 1952 she married Salvatore “Sammy Lou” Chippoletti with whom she shared 23 years until his passing on May 30, 1975; they truly loved one another and they blended a beautiful family life together. Lucy’s primary concern in life was her family. She was an angelic, kind, and faith-filled woman, qualities that sustained her throughout her admirable and exemplary life. A special happiness always uplifted her spirit when her family gathered together to visit, share conversation, and enjoy each others’ company. Lucy is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Dolores L. Calenda, with whom she shared a home, and Katherine and Francis C. Congelo, Sr. of Ilion. Always close to her heart was the memory of her husband’s son, James Chippoletti, who she loved as her own. She also leaves her grandson, Francis C. Congelo, Jr.; and her sister, Gloria Loiacano of Utica. Survivors also include her nieces and nephews, especially acknowledging Jim Piccola, Phil DePerna, Richard DeMartino, John DeMartino and their families; great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, godchild, Annie Jenks; and her sister-in-law, Nancy DeMartino. In addition, she leaves her maid-of-honor and lifelong best friend, Mary Longo Inserra, numerous dear friends and neighbors; and her constant canine companion, “Brandy”, who never left her side. She was predeceased by her sisters, Julia DeFelice, Adeline Piccola Guarnieri, Lillian Spina, Virginia Smith, and Laura Ortity; and her brothers, Dominic DeMartino, and John J. DeMartino. Lucy always remembered those living and those who passed, but she held a special remembrance of her nieces, Phyllis Piccola, and Shirley DePerna. Her family offers sincere thanks to her caregivers, Carmen and Lonna, and her constant caregiver, Betty Dygert, who was also a loyal friend. The last few days of her life were honored by the dignity, compassion, and cleanliness of the Masonic Care Community of NY, with special recognition of the Amherst household. Lucy’s family would also like to acknowledge Dr. James Ward for always providing her with compassionate care and concern. A final note of thanks to Lucy’s friend and dedicated hairdresser, Sue Paratore, who so kindly always accommodated her needs. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Acts of kindness may be considered to the Masonic Care Community of NY; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Lucy’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday at 12:00 noon, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation with Rev. Anthony P. LaFache officiating. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery. “Mom, you’re our special Angel in Heaven”.
