Lucy (DiPillo) DeMarco

Mrs. Lucy (DiPillo) DeMarco, age 104, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at The Pines at Utica. Born in New York City on April 1, 1906, Lucy was the daughter of the late Vincenzo “Vincent” and Giovanna “Jenny” (Bompani) DiPillo. She was raised and educated in New York City. On July 31, 1926 she married Anthony DeMarco with whom she shared 47 years of love and devotion to one other. Mr. DeMarco passed away on March 22, 1974. Because Lucy loved to interact with people, she enjoyed the years she worked as a medical assistant in the office of Dr. Louis Strobino. She later held a position at the Clark Mills Glove Factory, retiring in 1980. Many will agree that it was Lucy’s strong-willed and spirited nature that contributed to her longevity. She was fond of cooking, baking, and decorating her home. A dynamic and social woman, she was moved by music and danced so gracefully. She was a parishioner of Historic Old St. John’s Church. Lucy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas A. and Dolores DeMarco of Edgewater, FL; and her granddaughter, Debbie and David Merriman. Survivors also include her nieces and nephews, Joanne M. and Michael T. Dziura, Jim and Kim DePastene, Frank DePastene, Jr., Patty and Tony Talerico, and Joseph and Pat Monopoli; several great-nieces and great-nephews; many great-great nieces and nephews; her brother-in-law, Frank DePastene, Sr. of Utica; and her dear friend, C.J. Jeffalone. She was predeceased by her sisters and brother-in-law, Viola L. and Joseph Monopoli, Sr., and Florence DePastene. The family extends sincere appreciation to the entire staff of the Pines at Utica, especially the 4th floor personnel; and Fr. John Buehler, Fr. John Flanagan, and Deacon William Dischiavo for their love, care, and spiritual guidance. In keeping with Lucy’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. The family will honor her wishes in a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Lucy’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will commence on Monday morning at 10:00 at Historic Old St. John’s Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
