Louis Garofalo

Mr. Louis E. Garofalo, age 87, of Utica, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2006 at the Heritage Health Care Center. Born in Utica on June 28, 1918, Louis was the son of the late Pasquale and Adeline (Colacicco) Garofalo. He was raised here and attended local schools. On February 17, 1942 he was joined in marriage with the former Savina “Mae” Blase with whom he shared a loving and devoted union of 48 years prior to her passing on December 1, 1990. Mr. Garofalo began his career as a meat packer and cutter with Gold Medal. He later was employed with Chicago Pneumatic for a period of time. He lastly worked and retired from International Heating and Air Conditioning where he was an assembler. As a private man of humble spirit, Louis possessed a quiet and laid-back attitude. His family meant the world to him: his daughter and her family, and his brothers and their families were at the center of his life and of his heart. He truly loved and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed the simple and satisfying pleasures in life, especially being a Utican, his home, his camp on Canada Lake, and activities such as fishing and gardening. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. Mr. Garofalo is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Elisa and Carl M. Rodak of Saratoga Springs NY; his beloved grandchildren Debbie and Gregory Giovanis of Sterling VA, and Robin and Donald Trudeau of Mechanicsville NY; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Alexa Giovanis, and Mackenzie Trudeau. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Vito and Madeline Garofalo of Whitesboro; a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and his in-laws, Mary O’Neil, Rita and August Lalli, Dominick and Macey Blase, and John and Lynn Blase and their son, Joseph. Louis also leaves his longtime friends and tenants, Dominick and Marie. He was predeceased by 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, Benjamin Garofalo, and Dominick Sr. and Theodosa Garofalo; and his in-laws, Olivia Pape, and Michael O’Neil. The family extends their appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Heritage Health Care Center for their kindness and concern in attending Louis. Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning from 11:00-12:00 noon at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations to the Heritage Health Care Center; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mr. Garofalo’s funeral will commence on Wednesday at 12:00 noon from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
