Lorena L. "Peggy" (Harris) Reile

Lorena L. “Peggy” (Harris) Reile, age 95, of Utica, a current resident of the Presbyterian Home, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 14, 2008 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. Born in Rockwells Mills, NY on October 28, 1912, Lorena was the daughter of the late George and Fannie (Mattherson) Harris. Raised and educated in Rogers Hollow, NY, she was proud of the accomplishment of earning her Graduate Equivalency Diploma when she was in her 50’s. A woman of great strength of character, Peggy was a fine example of motherhood. She cared for her family and her home while she worked at various positions including Remington Arms, Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company, and UNIVAC Corp. Selfless with her time and talents, she fulfilled many kind acts for family and friends, and served as a volunteer in assisting others. She had an unbounded love for her grandchildren. As a member of “the greatest generation”, she was an amazing person, bound and determined to maintain her independence and continue to be self-reliant. During her leisure time she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, knitting, and crafting and often bestowed many beautiful remembrances to her loved ones. At one time she was a member of the East Side Senior Center. She was a communicant of Asbury United Methodist Church. Peggy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Mary Reile, and Ronald and Beverly Reile, all of Ilion, and Paul G. and Patricia Reile of Utica; her grandchildren, Don Reile, Matthew and Linda Reile, Ronald Reile, Jr., Jeffrey Reile, Douglas and Samantha Reile, Lucia and Joseph Caroli, and Lorre Almas; her 9 great-grandchildren; and her 1 great-great-grandson. Survivors also include her niece, Georgia McCormick; her great-niece and nephew, Linda and Dale Williams; her great-great-niece Lisa Williams and Tom Box; and her brother-in-law, Lester Foley. She was predeceased by her sisters, Grace Harris, and Ruth Foley. The family expresses thanks to the staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center Cardiac Care Unit and the Emergency Room personnel for the respect and the personal attention shown to Peggy. Thanks also to the outstanding staff of Assisted Living at the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc. for their loving and compassionate care. In keeping with Peggy’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. with the Rev. Laurie Percival Pauley officiating. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
