Linda Lynn Spratt

UTICA - Linda Lynn Spratt, age 56, went home to the Lord when she passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 with her family by her side who will forever miss her. Born in New Hartford on August 14, 1965, Linda was the daughter of the late Lindell “Frying Pan” Reed and Millie “Mulla” “Milla” Spratt. She attended Brandegee, Kemble, and Kernan Elementary Schools, and T.R. Proctor High School. During her working years, Linda held positions at Dunlop Tires in the valley, Mele Manufacturing, Broadacres Nursing Home as a Nurse’s Aide, and the Thea Bowman House in the billing department where she performed her duties and responsibilities with accuracy, efficiency, and compassion. It was her favorite job because it provided a safe, nurturing environment that enabled culturally diverse children and families to achieve their full potential, a core value that Linda held dear. It was a job that led Linda to become a foster mother to many children. She was a role model and wanted to give them a memorable relationship and life lessons that reached their hearts. Linda was a character! Back in the day, she enjoyed hanging with the neighborhood kids, climbing trees, picking fruit, and having fun! She had a light-hearted side and a humble heart. Helping others was her true calling, and it came naturally to her. She was the bonding fabric of her family, sharing her wisdom, perceiving people’s problems, and speaking her mind. A matriarch and pillar of fortitude, she was a strong leader, always responsible and in charge. She took care of business while maintaining a sense of selflessness. She was one in a million! A woman of foresight, she was always thinking about the future. She was intuitive and ahead of her time, and the advice she gave helped others to understand life and the ups and downs that paved everyone’s journey. Now, in retrospect, it is clear that Linda wanted her loved ones to understand that life was like a business, and she always made you “sign the paper” to fulfill your commitment and manage a dollar. Linda was a person of simple pleasures. She loved fishing and always hooked a fish! She would wrap it up, put her name on it, and was proud of her trophy. Blessed with a green thumb, she tended to her numerous plants and often gave friends and family saplings to start their own. Plants were a new life and she talked to them and gave them an earful! She was also a great cook and prepared soul food plus sides complete with carry-out containers for whenever company graced her home. She loved sharing the blessing of her bounty! Linda had it all, including a Mickey Mouse collection! Sketching was also a family pastime that added to the best of times shared with her loved ones. Every holiday was important to Linda, and her mom taught her that if people were invited to her home, she had better be prepared. Therefore, between 5:30-6:00 AM you could find Linda at Walmart, stocking up to share a meal with her family and make a take-home “mini-feast” for all! Linda was raised in the Church and knew of the Lord’s teachings. She read the Bible and her spirituality was so evident in the way she lived her life. Linda relied on her faith to carry her through earthly life to eternal peace. Linda is survived by her children and their loves, Aaron and Kimberly Reed Montanez, Gio Vanni Spratt, and Brooklyn Spratt; and her siblings and their loves, James Spratt, Sam Reed, Millie Ward, Michael and Glynnis Reed, Ricky Reed and Carmecita Rosado, Athya Reed, Mae Williams, Kem Reed, Jaron Brown, and Christopher Brown. She was preceded by her brother, Lindell Reed; and sisters, Ana Rae Reed, and Jessie Hollaway. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; aunts and uncles, Edith Huyler, Flowreen “Donna” Spratt, John “Coonboy” and Dorothy Spratt, Willie and Beverly Spratt, and Callie M. Lewis. She was also blessed by many friends including Laurie Brown, Glynnis Reed, Brian Kupiec who was her neighbor for 30 years, Lisa Boyd, as well as many others that will cherish her memory. She was predeceased by her aunts and uncles, Carrie Lou Spratt and Rev. Roger Spratt, Mattie Diggs, and George Reed. The family is grateful to Anthony Burnett (MVHS) Transitional Care Coordinator & Albany Medical Center for the care they so kindly rendered to Linda. Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon, June 16, 2022 from 12:00-1:00 pm at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Linda’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 1:00 pm upon the conclusion of visitation. Interment will follow graveside at Forest Hill Cemetery.
