Mr. Leonard G. "Lenny" Wagner Sr.

Mr. Leonard G. “Lenny” Wagner, Sr., age 56, of Rome, passed away peacefully as he joined his loved ones who have gone before him. His passing occurred at the Syracuse VA Medical Center with the love and support of his family by his side. Leonard was born in Utica on July 28, 1956 to the late George Looman and Jennie Wagner. A proud US Veteran, he honorably served his country stateside in the United States Navy. At one time he was married to the former Marjorie Olin and from that relationship came the blessings of their four children which kept them beloved friends bonded to one another. Lenny’s occupational skills were vast and included his work as a laborer, a dairy farmer, and an automobile mechanic. His abundance of aptitudes earned him the loving nickname “Jack of all trades and master of none”. He lastly worked at Crosman’s in Bloomfield, NY. Lenny was a salt-of-the earth, forthright, good person. He firmly believed in abiding by his own virtues and morals. He had a soft spot in his heart for children. Being a good parent and supporting his children were the goals of his life. He guided them and was especially proud of their accomplishments. He cherished the times when his family could gather for a reunion, especially this past Thanksgiving. He was a weathered hunter and a seasoned camper and shared the sport of scuba diving with his sons. He enjoyed watching television series, John Wayne movies, episodes of MASH, and was a huge Harry Potter fan. Lenny’s survivors include his children and their spouses, Sabrina and Marc Lanaux, Sergeant First Class (US Army Retired), Leonard Jr. and Rebekah Wagner, Rebecca and Matthew Miles, Adam Wagner, Sergeant (US Army); Jack Coons, Specialist (US Army), Loretta Coons, Zachary Wagner, and Desirae Wagner and their mother; his 14 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Lenny was one of seven siblings. His extended family includes many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. Lenny will be greeted by his family and longtime friends, Norman Almond, and Mike Kelsey, who have preceded him. The family extends a special thank you to Lenny’s son-in-law Marc who ‘opened the doors’ for his care at the VA Hospital in Syracuse and whose staff tended to Lenny with much concern and encouragement. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00-3:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Lenny’s funeral service and Celebration of Life with Military Honors will commence on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 immediately upon conclusion of visitation.
