Lawrence A. "Larry" Connor

Mr. Lawrence A. “Larry” Connor, age 90, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with the love and support of his family. Born in West Winfield on July 5, 1920, Lawrence was the son of the late Dennis and Emma (Weigel) Connor. He was raised and educated in West Winfield. On June 12, 1971 he married the former Grace Giotto; they were blessed with a special loving relationship during their 39-year union. Larry’s working life spanned many years and careers. He served as the Town Constable for West Winfield, and also worked for the West Winfield Highway Department of Public Works. He later held positions at the Oneida County Airport, Kelsey-Hayes Company, and the City of Utica. At heart, Larry was a homebody and loved to work around his house. His family would often refer to him as “Mr. Fix-it”. He was loved and cherished by his family and grandchildren and he found joy in providing for them. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke ready to keep friends and family laughing. He took time to travel, often getting in the car and taking a trip to Montreal, Washington, DC, or wherever his desire drove him. In his earlier days he enjoyed dancing. He was a member of the Rotary Club and a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Larry is survived by his wife, Grace; his children, Diane Taylor of GA, David and Carmel Connor and their family of FL, Carol Talento of Utica, and Phyllis and Charles Alderwick of Cleveland, NY; his grandchildren, Donna Casaletta and Justin Smith, Michael Jr. and Mary (Khoury) Brucker, David Fallon, Jr., Lori Alderwick, and Steven Casaletta; and his great-grandchildren, Karina Casaletta, and Michael Brucker III. Survivors also include several nieces and nephews, especially Jeanne, Celeste, Pamela, and Nadine, all of Batavia, and William of West Winfield; his great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, Irene M. Giotto, and Joseph and Madge Giotto, all of Utica; and his loyal friend, Pete Moore. He was predeceased by his sisters, Grace Waite, Marjorie Connor, and Mary Connor; and his brothers, Edward Connor, and Louie Connor; and his brother-in-law, Andrew A. Giotto. The family appreciates the 3rd floor nurses and staff at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their competence and compassion in caring for Larry. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Larry’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday afternoon at 12:00 noon from the funeral home and at 1:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
