Kathleen B. "Kathy" Stewart

ROME – Kathleen B. “Kathy” Stewart, age 78, passed away having much trust in the Lord, as she was called Home after many medical struggles on Monday, December 26, 2022. She was born in Plattsburgh on August 6, 1944, the daughter of the late Charles and Betty (Button) Stewart. The family relocated to the Mohawk Valley, where she attended Frankfort Central Schools. Ever interested in learning, she continued her studies at Chesapeake College. At one time, she was married to Victor Vaccarelli, and to that relationship came the blessing of three beautiful children; he passed away in 2020. Kathleen found both employment and a calling to serve her community with the Oneida County Department of Social Services as a case worker. She also worked for a time at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in the billing department. To both positions, she was dedicated and fulfilled her responsibilities admirably. Kathleen had a heart for other people and was known for her sensitive and generous nature. She opened her home to anyone in need and she saw them as blessings. Her great joys came from helping people. She was a caretaker with no boundaries, and as known as “The Super Ma” to so many. She was truly loved and admired for her graciousness. She lived a simple life, which included doing for others first, often forgoing her own needs. She was not at all materialistic toward herself, but ensured others had what they needed. She was a whiz at the sewing machine and loved making children smile by sewing clothing for their dolls. Her creative nature carried over to the kitchen and she could make delicious meals out of seemingly nothing. She embedded herself in her church community at Rome First United Methodist and found that praying and worshiping gave her great peace of mind. She went for her personal spirituality and forged many friendships, whom she was happy to help in any fashion. Kathleen is survived by her sons Anthony and Amy Vaccarelli and Victor Vaccarelli. She was predeceased by her beloved son Joseph “Joe” Vaccarelli. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Valerie, Crystal, David and their families; Anthony Vaccarelli; and twins Vader and Lucas Vaccarelli; as well as several great-grandchildren. She was mother figure to many who loved and respected her for her guidance. She is also survived by her siblings Ruth, Barb and Charles “Buddy,” and was preceded by her sister Carol. Additional survivors include her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and special clergy, Pastor Sherry Mahar, with whom she shared an entrusting friendship. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all those who have tenderly cared for Kathleen during these difficult times of her illness. A memorial gathering will take place on Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 2-3 p.m., followed by a memorial service and celebration of life at 3 p.m., with Pastor Sherry Mahar officiating, at Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hamond Ave. For those unable to attend, Kathleen's services may be attended virtually at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86555116577.
