Mrs. Justin E. Owen-Dyer

UTICA - Mrs. Justin E. Owen-Dyer, age 72, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2019 in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago on April 13, 1947, Justin was the daughter of the late Leo Hunte and Lily Owen. Raised and educated in Trinidad and Tobago, she furthered her studies at technical schools, and in 1989 she relocated to the United States and eventually settled in Utica where she has since resided. At one time she shared in a loving relationship with Clifton Baritto and from that union came the blessing of four children. She was later wed to Michael S. Dyer. For over 20 years, Justin was employed by Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. as a Home Health Aide, a position she loved and was well-suited for because she was an “angel” to her patients, from what was shared by families she served. Justin had a loving heart. She was empathetic, caring, and selfless in her devotion to the needs of her loved ones and anyone with whom she ever came in contact. She always made sure that her children followed the right path and made the most of themselves. She loved to bake, especially her delectable sponge cake, among other confections. She also made and sold marshmallows to markets. Every spring, she enjoyed gardening and cultivating vegetable plants. Justin is survived by her daughters, Michelle Noel of Trinidad, and Hazel Ann Owen of Utica; her sons, Cornelius Owen of Trinidad, and Anthony Owen of Utica; her grandchildren, Kim Noel, Karissa Massy; Sherwyn Charles; Arkeem Owen, Akeisha Owen, Jahniya Owen, Anthony Owen Jr., Mya Benson Owen, Jazmin Owen, and Harmony Owen; great-grandchildren, Kymani Matthew, and Kanyel Matthew; her sisters and brother-in-law, Faith and Nath Gordon, June Montrose, and Isabel Bryce; and her brothers and sister-in-law, Emmanuel Hunte, Felix Hunte, and Reynold “Ben” and Rita Hunte. She also leaves her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, especially acknowledging Brenda and Donna with whom she shared a loving relationship; and her special friends from her time working at Hospice, including Nahvaz, Irene, Crystal, Georgia, and other co-workers who she loved. She was predeceased by her sister, Cynthia Hunte; and her brothers, James Owen, and Henry Francis. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the family to assist them during this time of need; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Justin’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday evening at 6:00 the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
